Mclaren Will Run Third Car In 2005

Recommended Posts

The McLaren team have confirmed that they intend to take full advantage of the rule that allows them to use a third car in Friday practice sessions this season.

Under the FIA regulations any team that finished outside the top four in the previous year

True, especially since they have the potencial to fight for the title which BAR lacked last year. And no doubting both Wurz and delarosa's capabilities.

We saw what the Friday driver managed to do for BAR last year and McLaren will make full use of this freebie.

another interesting aspect to this story is whether we see mika pop up on one or more of the fridays. from a development perspective you'd have to go with wurz and de la rosa, but wouldn't it be fantastic to see mika on an f1 track again.

B) Ron won't waste valuable track time just to give the fans a thrill, but then they will be sucking on Ferrari exhaust fumes anyway during the races so why not give Mika a chance behind the wheel to see how far F1 has progressed as I'm sure he would be like JV in that the technology has passed him by-not to say JV is still behind the curve but relateing to his short stint with Renault last year. ;)

I agree with you, Pumpdoc. Ferrari will definitely be a stubborn backmarker this season but if they know whats good for them, they'll get out of the way to let the Mclaren boys through

agree with pumpdoc. Fair comment about JV's time at Renault though, the sheer speed of both the cars and pace of the race caught him out big time, no amount of training would have substituted for actually being in the car over a race weekend.

No-one doubts wurz and de la rosa's capabilities? I do! Wurz was rubbish, anyone who reads f1 racing will see that the magazine loves him but with Benetton he was nowhere. And de la rosa is about as good as Gaston Mazzacane. There's no way Mika will make an appearance, he's got a full-time drive in DTM and thats what he's committed to

Maclaren will show everybody what it really means to run a third car. I am quite certain Ferrari, Williams, Renault & BAR are not smiling at the prospect. BAR by virtue oof finishing second in the championship no longer have that option open to them and they will suffer. If they could not make the third car clinch them a victory, podiums will become a rumour in 2005! Poor JB, he really should have won his first race last year - looks like he has to wait for 2006!

Mika might not make an appearance in 2005, but 2006 maybe as test driver?

My dream scenario: JPM wrecks too many times, gets booted off, mika gets the call. Two flying Finns at McLaren, Kimi and Mika. Should be a great 2006 if this happens.

Wurz is very good in testing. You saw that in the recent test when he set a blistering pace, he was way ahead of the others that were there.
