DAVIDSON HAPPY WITH JORDAN TEST

Anthony Davidson declared his Jordan test at Silverstone on Tuesday as "very good" and "useful for both sides" despite being too small for the car and missing half a day while the team changed an engine.

The British BAR-Honda driver, who was freed to test for Jordan as a one-off, managed to lap within four seconds of Alex Wurz's ultimate pace in the McLaren and was only 1.2s behind the Red Bull of Christian Klien by the end of the day.

And Davidson reckons he could have gone even quicker if he'd had more time.

"We had a problem with the engine on the installation lap, but that's why you do them I guess," he told ITV-F1.com.

"It didn't actually fail but it kept me out of the car for three hours. I got five laps in before lunch which helped me acclimatise.

"I had a good feeling in the car though.

"If I had had more time I think I could have closed the gap to Wurz by another 0.5s."

The Englishman found that he was too small in the c##kpit of the Jordan, but got used to it as the test went on.

"The main problem I had was that I couldn't reach the peddles in the car and that for a one-day test it wasn't worth changing the car around too much, although the team did their best to make me comfortable," he said

Davidson also pointed out that he hadn't driven for a while and needed to time to re-acclimatise.

"We got down to business after lunch though and worked through some Suzuka set-ups and made some mechanical changes," he said.

"I was happy with the car and impressed with the professionalism of the team.

"Every run I got quicker and quicker. It's always difficult to drive something with less grip. Because with the car you are used to the only mistake you can make is not to brake late enough or something like that, whereas with this car I had to restrict myself more.

"But there was not a massive difference, although you could notice there were less G-loads through the corners on the body."

Davidson will now resume testing duties with BAR-Honda at Jerez in the week after the Brazilian Grand Prix.

But he emphasised once again his willingness to push for a race drive in 2006 and said that he would do anything to achieve that aim.

"I didn't know what to expect from this test and now I've done it I'm happy to do more," he said.

"I'm willing to drive anything, anywhere, anytime."

He's absolutely desperate for a race drive. I think he's 28 now, thats 3 years older than Button (who's in his 6th season), and he needs to race before he's forgotten! I'm sure Jordan/Midland will gladly give him a seat. But surely they wouldnt be able to pay him?
