Qualifying Format Set For Finalisation

Recommended Posts

I say low fuel quali, the fill the tanks up (as Dan says) prior to the race and ban refuelling.

Yeah, I would be happy with that as well. Really I don't care whether the car is on full or light fuel as long as refueling during the race is banned. That is of far greater importance IMO.

Did you watch MY Chargers demolish the Giants later on? LT LT LT LT LT LT LT

:clap3::clap3::clap3::clap3::clap3::clap3:

I can't believ you watch gIRL racing :mf_tongue::mf_tongue::mf_tongue:

I LOVE IT!!!

Pump, I am sorry to say I am a Jets fan. :( I do watch the Giants games sometimes, but only if nothing else is on or I'm not driving back from a Jets game. I've been a season ticket holder for longer than most people in this forum have been alive..... It will be 28 years of suffering this season.....

Closest we get to your neck of the woods this season is Oakland and San Diego and both of those are here in NY

I watch CART and IRL when they are on good road courses like The Glen. The best part about taping it is since they are wussy racers and still do full course yellows for spin outs in the corners or excessive 'clag' as Derek Daly says on the track, I can fast forward to only watch the green flag portions. I want these folks to ban pit stops durning caution periods so we can see some real pit strategy. That would make the racing much more interesting.

Yep. Agree completely. There's a lot of skill involved from the driver with such a heavy load.

Only problem with this is that the drivers have been adamant that they want the single lap session because they see it is the fairest option. DC was going about the paddock at Hockenheim trying to get them to keep single lap but without running race fuel & everyone agreed, Teams, Drivers, officials all of them.

With the TV as it is now anything other than Single lap would be crap. The directors can hardly keep up with Saturday practice so having 20 cars in quali would be awfull. Plus with the engine/tyre rules do you think teams would want to push there cars to the limit?

Stick to single lap its unpopular yes but for F1 now its the most practical!

Wasn't DC one of the ones who expressed a big dislike for the single lap format?

I agree with getting rid of fuel and tyre restrictions though.

with or without the 107% rule though? I think that made things between front and back of the grid closer, if only for that hour as teams like Minardi had to work more to achieve those times.

With the 107% otherwise teams like Minardi don't try to improve, they just stagnate............

hmm as far as I remember the 107% rule was not always invoked, I dont remembe ever seeing a minardi not being allowed to race because of that.

because they appealed at least a few times that I remember. It was subject to the agreement of the other teams to allow them to race based on a faster recorded time in practice than in qualifying. I don't remember any team having any notable objections, not even Ferrari.

It happened to Rosset at Tyrrell in 1998 a few times, as did our friend Alex Yoong in 2002.

I liked the old 12-lap 1 hour session. They only stopped it cos tv companies were complaining that nothing was happening. But f1 isnt about the tv companies - its about the fans, and fans don't want to see single-lap

yeah it was partly due to the tv companies, but it was also due to the lower teams such as Minardi and Jordan saying they were getting little to no air time and hence had massive trouble getting sponsors.

Thats their problem - not the fans' problem. I sympathise with small teams but the quali format shouldn't change to please f1 teams
