I thought this was an F1 site?? Anway without America Australia would have been invaded by The Japs. If Britain had it's way, all Australian Forces would never had returned to defend Australia from the Jap as they were then under british command. It was at this point the Australian Military seperated from Brish command. hence the fact Australia has stronger defence ties with the US. We should thank the yanks and point fingers at the British!

Have you ever heard of "The battle of Brisbane". The Battle of Brisbane was a riot between US and Australian servicemen stationed in Brisbane, on November 26 and November 27 1942. By the time the violence had been quelled one Australian soldier was dead, and hundreds of Australian and US servicemen were injured along with civilians caught up in the fighting. Hundreds of soldiers were involved in the rioting on both sides. This incident was heavily censored at the time and apparently was not reported in the US at all, the Australian and American troops hated each other and we were only allies because we both needed each other. We needed the Americans to help stop an invasion from the Japanese and the Americans needed us for a massive military base because we were in a strategicly important place after Singapore got taken. Neither side liked each other but we needed each other, the famous saying about the the American soldiers in WW2 was "Over paid, over sexed and over hear".

Will do. Where were we, oh yes, the "Battle of Brisbane". I also read that Australian MP's took of their arm bands and joined the protests. Soldiers and civilions all rioted and the American soldiers did the same thing. There we alot of reasons why the Australian soldiers hated the Americans and one of the biggest was that Americans gave the Australians the worst jobs in terms of fighting. One of the hardest battles in the Pacific was the Kokoda track in Papua New Guinea (fought nearly entirly by Australians), it was a very bloody gorrila battle and the conditions were really bad (soldiers died of starvation). This is a job that the Americans didnt want so they gave it to us. That was the biggest reason why the Australian soldier disliked Americans. Australian soldiers had a expression for the Americans "Over paid, over sexed and over here".
