Michael Schumacher gave his endorsement to the new 2.4-litre V8 format after setting the pace on his return to the c##kpit at Jerez on Thursday.

The German, who was the last driver to win a world championship with a V8 in 1994, said that although the lack of power in comparison to a V10 was obvious, he thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

"I feel a much lower level of power, but that is nice," he told reporters. "It is interesting and the sound is totally different.

"On the first lap I was shocked but then I noticed that I had not used the engine's full potential. I do feel this limitation of power, but honestly I had expected a lot worse.

"And in terms of the joy of driving, there is no limitation."

Schumacher said the he had high hopes for 2006, after driving the hybrid F2005, and said he was convinced that Ferrari is back on the right path.

Is it me or does he always welcome new regulations?

I'll be frank, I dont like some of the stuff Ferrari does, but I'll support them so long as MS is with them.

well once ferrari really does becomes a midfield team again people will just say what they say about ferrari about the top running team of the time. people always pick on the top players. if renault wins in 06 and 07, people will start saying the same things, there is no way to change it.

i don't think so. whilst flavio is chummy with bernie, he is definitely not as chummy with max as jean todt is. and you could aslo add ross brawn's bum-chum relationship with charlie whiting. no, ferrari have made extra special effort to bring the sport into disrepute. any other team's success is quite enjoyable to watch imo as it shows hat what goes around comes around for teams like ferrari that don't play right.

Anyone else notice the three world champions have all come out in favour of the V8. I particularily liked FA's response that driving on the edge is never easy. Perhaps Zonta should apply himself more if he thinks a school girl could drive the car. Maybe what he meant to say was a school girl could drive the car as well as him.
