pumpdoc 2 Report post Posted May 11, 2006 What happened:There were 5 fights. I won 2 by knockout. 1 by a technical knockout, and 1 by him disconnecting for some unknown reason. He won a fight, I concede that. It was because I got DQed for using an elbow. Ahh the fun. Ecap, we gotta get that up again soon. Pumpdoc, if and when you get a 360, let us know and get the gamertag. I remember you had a story about selling one. As reported by reliable sources here's a snipit from Howard Cosells reporting....................... I'm here to tell you fight fans this has been a display of pugalistic prowess like no other and as the bell rings a wobblie Ecap comes to the center ring, as these fighters trade counter punches it seams that Ecap has a second wind.......Ar5 just landed a bruising left, right, left and DOWN GOES ECAP, DOWN GOES ECAP, DOWN GOES ECAP!!!!!!!!!.............7,8,9,10 ding ding ding!!! Ecaps trainer jumps into the ring, Ecaps eyes are still rolled back in his skull as he fights to get to his feet, but he has trouble as his leggs are still on queer street.................Howard Cosell reporting................ cavallino 2 Report post Posted May 26, 2006 Cav, here's the shot of my modified helmet file from GTR. I've been messing around with GT Legends. The tracks are so featureless its very hard to get braking points right, I cant even get past the first part of the same, driving a damn Mini. Any driving tips from the pros here
Autumnpuma 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2006 I've been messing around with GT Legends. The tracks are so featureless its very hard to get braking points right, I cant even get past the first part of the same, driving a damn Mini. Any driving tips from the pros here I'm hardly a pro, but I'll answer as best that I can. I can't help with giving you braking points as I tend to brake rather early in those cars. The physics model it uses is pretty close to the game 'Grand Prix Legends' which has you driving (sliding, more like) in the 1967 Formula 1 cars. The optimum driving style in that game (and in GT Legends) is to brake in a straight line and take an early turn-in. You are gonna slide around alot in GT Legends and all the cars have turn-in understeer and exit oversteer. Turning in early sets up a drift and takes you through the apex. Anyway, try an early turn-in, coast through the apex, and apply gentle throttle blips until you are pointing straight on exit. Each lap, concentrate on one turn and try to brake later and later until you lose the car. Then back off to your last successful braking point and there you have it. cavallino 2 Report post Posted May 26, 2006 How do real drivers judge their braking points, do they have highly accurate mental clocks or do they also use external cues like I try to , which is the thing bugging me the most. I am getting the hang of things, but braking on those 'blind' turns is still very much a matter of press and hope. And these damned manically fast AI drivers, who can turn in a lap 4 seconds faster than me in qualifying Its fun though

I am getting the hang of things, but braking on those 'blind' turns is still very much a matter of press and hope. And these damned manically fast AI drivers, who can turn in a lap 4 seconds faster than me in qualifying Its fun though I mostly run in practice mode with nobody but me on-track. The AI drivers sometimes throw me off because they defy the laws of physics! Real drivers judge braking points either by using the 200, 100 and 50 distance signs on the outside of most turns. As a general rule, they brake at the 50. Some tracks don't have these or the optimum braking point is different for each driver. In the old days, Moss would set up rocks beside the track for his braking point and Stewart would aim for trees in the distance (entry into the Karrusel). Most drivers have run the tracks so often that they just 'know' when to brake. The last one is pretty much how I do it. I have no clue about braking points until I try everything and settle on the point that I can take the corner without sliding into the gravel. Tracks like Monza I've run on so many sims that I don't even think about it, so with practice comes knowledge, I guess... And heck yes it's fun. I've been taking some laps around the 1967 Monaco track and I'm impressed with my times...until I look at the real times on that track, then I realize I make Ide look good!! cavallino 2 Report post Posted May 26, 2006 I pretty much try to use the visual cues, its annoying when there is nothing there. And this isn't a track like Monza or Monaco or the old Hockenheim that I know inside out. Getting sick of this Mini though and I need to win this race to get a better car, either turn down the difficulty which I really dont want to, or get cheats, which I really really dont want to Its not fair the way everything is locked in this game

I'll have to sit down with Legends and have a serious look-see at it...I've only played it a few times. My wife keeps dragging my into Guild Wars with her..sheesh..ah well..I sneak the racing in after she goes to bed As for the game locking cars, well it's annoying but it's also kind of fun. Like Gran Turismo for the original playstation was fun. It really took some skill to unlock some of those cars and left you with a sense of accomplishment when you did it. Also, Cav, do you have a good steering wheel/pedal set? GTR and GT Legends require a good set to truly go fast. I'm running the old 'red' Logitech Wingman (with the bearings in the wheel instead of the newer geared one). I've also altered my pedals to give me much more brake-travel. It's helped alot. I wonder puma how can you alter the brake travel on a set of purchased pedals just in case i get to convince her that i need to buy a steering set so I can practice and not crash our actual car. I wonder puma how can you alter the brake travel on a set of purchased pedals just in case i get to convince her that i need to buy a steering set so I can practice and not crash our actual car. Well, on my set, the plastic base has a rectangle opening that the pedal strut and pedal stick out of. The pedal strut has a spring that pushes it upwards and it's physically 'stopped' by the back edge of the opening. What I've done is cut out about 1 1/2" from the back of this opening, allowing the brake pedal to extend farther up. I've then replaced the spring that gives the brake pedal it's resistance with a stronger spring (found mine at a hardware store). It's really pretty easy and it gives you better control under braking because the 'stock' travel is much too short; you end up locking the virtual brakes on your car and hosing corner entry. I recommend the ancient but excellent game 'Grand Prix Legends'. Theory being that if you can drive those virtual cars, you can tackle any sim. Period. Welcome to the world of Ide Seriously though, Schumi13, the thread was a great idea. In what little spare time I have left anymore, I can play the following games online via the wonders of my ps2 and the cable connecting it to my tinterweb router: (driving games first) F1 '05 IndyCar series 2005 (dunno why I got it though, it's crap) WRC4 Tony Hawks UnderGround 2 WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2006. I don't claim to be any good at any of the games, indeed most of them have had very little play recently, but I'll try playing online against other people here who have the games, all in good fun. I have to say in Gran Turismo's favor, I had a 1988 Toyota Supra and I raced that machine in SoloII time trials...the Gran Turismo version handled very close to the real car... I don't claim to be an expert, but recently I have been wandering quite a bit on racing sim sites, and the general consensus is that GT4 tries to model just too many cars, and while it does manage to model some individual characteristics, the overall simulation and physics model is just not good enough, though the track modelling is excellent. threads like this one for example http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=241935&page=4 Its just too populist really.
