Wake up, people!

Ok, some things I've read that are not worth a whole thread.

- Piquet the Midget: apparently he has gone Villeneuve and after winnning the most illustrious Truck whatever in USA he decided that he is now entitled to utter whatever crap comes through his mind.
He started by diminishing Grosjean achievements and saying that he was "lucky" because he has a "weaker" teammate, and that Alonso would have won a lot more in that Lotus. While the last part about Alonso is undeniable for any objective person like me, which is no fanboy oh no no no.the rest is mere crap.

Grosjean is certainly being the revelation of this year and Kimi has even managed to impress me, and I never thought that much about Kimi besides "yeah, he can do fast laps when nobody cares anymore about them...big deal"

As if that wasn't enough, now he accuses Ayrton (nonetheless!) of having no technical skills and that he would not be able to drive one of today's cars. Oh, well...

- Heinz Harald Frentzen: asked if he has ever considered coming back to F1, he said no:: “It’s because I’m 45 now, and because Michael Schumacher has done everything he can to ensure that older guys are no longer so much in demand,” he told Motorsport Aktuell

Ouch.

- Some other funny crap I can't remember now.
"There is more stupidity than hydrogen in the Universe, and it has a longer shelf life" - Frank Zappa

"Great drivers are the ones who win the races they're not supposed to" - K.Chandhok

"On the rare occasions that I play a racing game I often think ‘you know what this needs? A boss battle or two.’ A Formula One game in which, suddenly, everybody else has a monster truck and their sole desire is to squash you. A street racing game with a tank or two blowing the roads and buildings to bits. A Nascar game with a track that occasionally bends to the right" (Adam Smith - RPS)

We keep on working, we do our thing, Vettel shouts over the team radio,We are who we are!

"Vettel is a champion. That’s not referring to his achievements, but rather to his approach to everything he does. He wins. All the time. His preparation is meticulous, his attention to detail reminiscent of Michael Schumacher at his peak, and his performance on the track is almost always flawless. Vettel is capable only of domination. He knows no other way... Vettel is not in Formula One to be liked. He is there to win. And in the words of Ayrton Senna, perhaps the greatest of all Formula One drivers, “Nice men don’t win.”"

It's hard to respect a guy who cheated to advance someone else's career.  Cheating's cheating, but at least if you're cheating for your own benefit there's some logic behind it.  Stupid logic, unethical logic, logic you shouldn't use, but logic.  When you're cheating for someone else, when you're going to risk your entire professional career so someone else can win a race, how do you even call yourself a racing driver?  You're supposed to win for yourself, not bend over and take it for the competitor you most need to beat, as outperforming Alonso on any given weekend would have made Piquet's future prospects a lot better.  You're not a racer if you're willing to lose it all for someone else to win.  If you're willing to lose it all for yourself to win, you're a racing driver, maybe not an ethical one depending on how far you want to go, but you're one.  It blows my mind that he's either that stupid or that submissive, but either way, those are horrible attributes to have if you're trying to make it in racing.

Glad he's found the "entertainment" industry to his liking.  He's in a series where drivers are happy to have a "good top ten run" or a "good points day."  Perfect for a guy who obviously cared more about letting others win than his own career.  One of the races he runs has the word "Lottery" right in the race name. I agree with Eric. He sounds so bitter. I think his bitterness is the worst kind too, that is the bitterness that stems from knowing your problems were largely of your own making. Saying that, I do think Piquet was pushed into F1 very early, just like Grosjean, and should never have been put in that position by the team.

I may be completely wrong, but didn't Piquet get quite a bit of testing in an F1 car before his debut? Grosjean was shoved in mid season with little to no experience due to the stupid in-season testing ban back then. Same with Alguersuari who replaced Bourdais - he'd only done straight line testing before his first race. In my memory, I seem to remember Piquet, like Hamilton, got quite a lot of testing mileage in the car before his big break...and was still pretty hopeless.

I remember it was quite interesting when teams let young drivers test their cars. It wasn't too often, once or twice a year, but was quite interesting reading. There's a testing day for young drivers but it was much better back then when experienced drivers were on the asphalt with them.

Fray Luis de León said:

As we were saying yesterday...
Fray Luis de León wrote mystical poems which prompted Cervantes to proclaim León "a genius who astounds the world and who, in ecstasy, might rob us of our senses." León was also an active man who taught at the University of Salamanca, translated classical and biblical literature, and wrote on religious themes. Twice denounced before the Inquisition, he was imprisoned for "heresy," though he returned to the University to later hold the chairs of Moral Philosophy and Biblical Studies.

Tradition has it that he began his lecture the first day after returning from four years' imprisonment with the words "as we were saying yesterday..."

Ouch.

Ahh, Heinz Harald Frentzen; Great in a car that was never quite up to scratch and p**s poor when he had to deliver in a car that could win. A bit like his name sake, he had 57 varieties, but unlike Heinz, only one of them was ever any good. I think he was a bit too sensitive. That's what Patrick Head always said anyway.

He's never really got over Corinna dumping him for a younger guy, that guy being Michael Schumacher. Maybe he's right; older guys really aren't in demand....
