This article irritates me. The Times of London, and Ed Gorman, lost credibility in my eyes when they hounded Mosley during his scandal. They have the same owners as the News of the World, who Max successfully sued at the time. Jackie Stewart also has a grudge against Max, and although his might be better-founded, the whole interview just reeks of petty vendettas.

There are genuine problems in F1 but they're not really caused by Max and Bernie. The manufacturers and circuit owners bicker amongst themselves and act in their own selfish interests. I doubt things would be better if they were in charge.

Welcome Aleg8r! Hopefully c u l8r.

I'm waiting for a JYS rant I can agree with; this aint it.

Bernie has no successor in place because to groom one would be to accept that his reign is coming to an end. Yes, he could drop dead and yes, it could leave the sport needing to re-group, but Bernie is an entrepreneur, I fully understand and support his position on not introducing anyone else. Not only that, but why should he? It's his empire, he built it, he can do what the hell he likes with it.

As far as allocation of revenues goes, it's always the same. The teams bitch that they want a bigger slice but never justify why they should have it. It may be a grotesque sum that Bernie nets each year but it is his money. It is up to the teams, as businesses to make ends meet at their end. Not complain because they see Bernie taking a bigger slice than what they get.

So, what's Jackie's point? I don't hear him actually complaining about the job that Bernie is doing. He is complaining about the dictatorial fashion in which the sport is run. Well, democracy doesn't always work. He keeps a tight reign and it works. He also negates to mention that Bernie spoke out against Max at the time of his scandal, suggesting it might be time for him (Max) to step down. I don't see that as the two of them being thick as thieves.

Jackie Stewart has done much for our sport and I have a lot of respect for him. However, I think his vies are outmoded and over simplified.

My view is generally that if somebody complains about a situation, their views are only of merit if they propose a viable alternative. Jackie isn't even trying, therefore I have no interest in his childish gripes.

Jackie needs to be careful with these bursts to the media, he needs to ensure what he is commenting on has substance and benefit, and therefore being worthy, not just the airing of dirty laundry like he has in the above mention article. Otherwise he will just end up being categorised with that other World Champion whom no one no listens to these days, Niki Lauda.

Jackie should just stop sticking his nose into F1 business! He did the same last year with McLaren about something to do with Lewis & Ron told him to p1ss off! Now he's facing up to a 4foot nothing 80 year old billionaire & a prostitue-screwing Fascist!

He does seem to be a very outspoken man and I'm not sure I ever agree with him.

I have nothing against people being outspoken or arrogant [because if I did, I would be two-faced!] But I think the issue with Jackie is he re-iterates months later what the press have already said, or somebody else has already said.

Jackie likes the shock factor. He likes to have a little outburst once every full moon. I very rarely agree with what he has to say, but he is entitled to say what he likes after all, even though we may not like it.

I'm proud of myself for this post! I preach free speech, so in turn - I must accept it.

That invalidates most of this forum.

Well I agree with JYS in respect that there is no succession plan, other than a faceless banking firm called CVC taking over. F1 is out of touch with most other sports in respect to the presentation of the races...i.e. compare F1 coverage following the leading car for 65 of 67 laps to that of IRL that follows all the cars, not just the leaders, and even have this brand new invention in TV land, called a split screen, and show two, three or four pitstops simultaneously. The graphics are better - it all has more oomph.

IRL / Nascar / NFL / NBA / Football - all the TV shows are presented in a far superior manner than F1. The TV audience is what F1 is all about, and, frankly, a kids Saturday morning TV show has more get up and go factor to it.

Bernie runs F1 like it's still in the 70's, which might be great for all you Pommie green gumboot and tweed jacket wearing fans that can't stand to alter a tradition in the slightest, but the rest of the world are almost at the year 2010.

There are improvements that can be made, sure. But I'd be wary of going over the top with bells and whistles. All the sports you mention are US only and designed for people with 2 second attention spans. F1 is a worldwide sport, remember, and it's all very well if you have a giant TV where you can use 50% of the screen area for scrolling banners full of info, but most people watching F1 aren't going to care about that stuff.

I'll be with you in just one moment....

*dribbler screeches to a halt, steps out of his Range Rover, lays down hunting rifle and walks over to his computer to read Handy's post. He adjusts his monacle first and squints at the screen*

...Bugger me old boy, it seems that Ziggy has moved you forward twelve months. I make that Pimms o'clock, what?

Fair- I live in the US though, and I'm used to people talking about American Football as just "football". Especially when mentioned in the same breath as Nascar et al.

Anyway, I do agree with you in some ways, I'm just wary of taking American sportscasting as a role model, because whenever I see it it infuriates me, particularly sports when the commentators spend more time making feeble jokes about their ex-wives than talking about what's going on.

Next thing we know the cars will be stopping on track every 5 minutes so we can throw to a commercial......
