HandyNZL 1 Report post Posted March 11, 2011 Japan has been hit by a huge earthquake and tsunami....if you haven't heard that by now, you should crawl out from under the rock you're living under. Tsunami warnings have spread across the Pacific, with Hawaii, Philippines, Korea, Russia, Aussie, NZ, Fiji, and every island in between in line for effects rising from storm swells to 10' high walls of swiftly moving water. Been amazing watching the footage live on TV of the waves washing inland in Japan, taking buildings, trucks, cars, and no doubt, people, with them. And then on the other side of the world WWIII is about to break out in Libya. I see that getting much worse before it gets better. The west will have to put a no fly-zone in effect, and from there it will be all on. The gloves will come off, and it won't be an easy exercise like it was strolling into Baghdad. At least once they do remove Gaddafi, the populace will not be against the west.... Some might say they are only doing this for the oil. Well, thats true, in part. People say, look at Zimbabwe...look at Mugabe....look at Darfur....does no one care about them too...?...oh, they don't have oil so why care.....? Yes, oil is lacking in those African nations, but the oil that is in Libya is crucial only in the fact that what happens there creates it's own earth quake on the global financial markets, and your back pocket in fuel prices, petro-chemical products, transport, food, general goods...even though the world could survive if not a drop of oil came out of Libya from here on out. In other words, recession could turn to depression if the domino effect spreads further through the north-African and middle eastern countries as it currently is. Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2011 I honestly did not know of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. I haven't watched TV or switched the radio on for two days. Its all study and other stuff for me at the moment. I know some of you cannot stand him, but to me he's a dear friend and I do hope Maure and his family are safe and well. Thoughts are with you. Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2011 Watching BBC News. As I was watching the original tsunami wave, there were people in cars on the road, trying to drive away. As the tsunami hit the road, the moving cars were being swept away. The terror those poor souls must feel. Utter devastation ravages the land. And the two power plants being declared a state of emergency. People trying to run away on foot. Absolutely awful, no words can do it justice. I just hope it stops as quickly as it started. Just watching a rescuer saving a little boy. One precious life towards the future of his country, helping to heal it and patch it back together. It makes you think how lucky you are. I know its not enough, but really I hope with all my heart and soul that the people of the free world unite and help these truly unfortunate people. My thoughts are with them and with the families who lost someone. Hopefully Maure is fine. Any news on how the earthquake + tsunami is affecting the other areas in danger? What about NZL? I hope he is not in the affeteced area, now the news are talking about more than 10,000 dead people and the numbre keep rising I was fearing numbers like this after I saw a video a whole town being eaten by the waves.
