Issue discussed earlier, and which might have escaped you, is somewhat tied into this, namely Honda's boss visiting and meeting key personnel in the paddock. Sky might have better inside than I do, and they may know what was all that about. At the distance we are all guessing. My money is on Honda will stay, but I was never good in gambling. Publius Cornelius Scipio 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2017 Interesting article on what is apparently happening behind the scenes of the Toro Rosso - McLaren - Honda - Renault - Red Bull negotiations https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/caso-honda-quanti-retroscena-per-arrivare-alla-quadratura-del-cerchio-949647/ to sum up: - Alonso is not the one who wants to get rid of Honda, rather it's TAG and Mumtalakat (as if a driver could have much say in such a big decision... ) - Red Bull has had enough of Toro Rosso, something that had already been mentioned in the past few weeks/months (I didn't know that Toro Rosso had the 5th biggest budget in the sport, if that is the case they should have done much better on track, now I understand some of the comments from the Red Bull camp) - Who is hoping to land a possible engine deal with Porsche? Regarding Alonso - if we look silly, that is only because how it was described by F1 media. TBH, it didn't make much sense (as expressed earlier). Hard to say today what options FiA will choose. All what we know with certainty is, that we aren't returning to normally aspirated engines. We could call it even pretty volatile situation, and one finds difficult to describe it without open mouth in disbelieve.. Sauber's big decision with PM of GB May's big announcement were both pushed on back burner to clear way for this mess. Honda to TR? Renault's PU to McLaren? Sainz to Renault? RBR later taking on Honda as a works team, while McLaren status changes to customer for Renault. So, who is the big winner in all of this? I think TR is. They have impressive people on the inside, big budget, and something what could be pretty good engine to have in time. Admittedly glacial speed Honda is progressing has a lot to do with all of this. I am not privy to their financial arrangement, however one potential scenario which I envisage would situate TR as a laboratory subject for Honda (a role McLaren will gladly surrender), and if there is performance convergence on powertrain, than RBR could take over as a works team.
