JV thanks Sauber for reviving his career

planetf1

Just days after Peter Sauber's last grand prix as a F1 team boss, Jacques Villeneuve has thanked him for the fact that his own F1 career isn't yet over.

Having missed the majority of the 2004 F1 season after being dropped by BAR, JV's career looked as if it was over.

However, Peter Sauber came to the rescue announcing just days after Renault agreed a three-race deal with the former World Champion, that he had signed a two-year contract with JV.

"Peter gave me the chance to continue to drive in F1 in 2005 and I wanted to thank him for this," Villeneuve told his website.

"He is a real passionate guy, he loves racing and I am sure that we will continue to see him around. He has put a very efficient team together with a much a smaller budget than most of the teams in the paddock."

Villeneuve also reiterated his belief that he

Jacques also had words of praise for Massa and wished him well. Apparently Massa invited Jacques to Ferrari HQ for some pasta, something I don't think Michael will be too happy about!

As for him and BMW, he sounds very very confident. Either he's stupidly nieve or he is in the know that he has the seat but for whatever reason can't be confirmed. I think and hope it's the latter.

I think he deliberately often states in public that he's confident of being retained just to put extra pressure on BMW to keep him, and not create an embarrassing situation by trying to not keep him! I wish they would hurry up and confirm he's staying - on the other hand, he has a 2 year contract so why would they need to make an announcement saying he's being retained? Hope i make sense

Yeah you do. That's something I've been contemplating and I really don't know. Whilst an announcement needs to be made to settle things down, JV does have a contract, and since Sauber didn't go bankrupt, BMW bought Sauber and all its assets and contracts, JV's but one of them, hence there really is no need for an announcement.

I think this is BMW trying to keep themselves in the press as they know there are alot of ppl who want to know about JV's fate going on the popularity of the guy. Either way, good or bad, I just want an answer.

They may be in the press but its for a bad reason not a good one - I dont understand why they dont see that the situation needs to be clarified asap

The fact is, the last half of the season JV performed at a level that was equal to Massa, even though the strategy the team was using was suspect for JV's car. He always seemed to be the heavy one going for one stoppers.

As far as teammate battles went, the Sauber one was the closet on the grid, with both drivers 80% of time finishing in sequence with one another.

The performance that Massa put in earned him a seat with Ferrari, and yet an almost equal perfomance by JV has the press calling for his head.

I agree though it is strange that BMW would not come out and say "Of course JV is our driver he has a contract to drive next year". The fact they haven't adds to the media speculation. Of course the press spin everything BMW's says to make it appear they want to get rid of JV.

They basically said, they had an open seat for next year and had to focus on filling that first. Makes sense to me. Now they said they can focus on JV.

If you look at the perfomance JV put in the last half of this year, it owuld make no sense to remove him from the team. Well connected sources say the engineers at Sauber have every confidence in him and expect him to be driving for the team next year.

The engineers of course, don't run the team, so it still is an open saga until MT says JV is driving for BMW next year.

Agree that JV should drive at BMW. Maybe they can convince him not to qualify on full tanks. Remember he used to do that at BAR as well.

if they replace him they're going to look even more stupid than they already do. Surely in order to create such a fuss and controversy if they were to replace him, it would have to be for a driver who's worth it all - and as we've discussed before, there arent any great alternatives out there

It must be all the practice you've had in writing Senna. I'm enjoying the first volume of your masterpiece on the embarassing drivers that we've had to put up with over the years in F1. I've just got to the chapter on Karty...

. If that’s true why did you say that JV is a liability? You do not make it obvious that you are referring to the media,
bmw bought all assets and LIABLITIES from sauber. many believe jv is part of latter

doesnt this show u have a problem in comprehending things.

monza merely said the quote (opinion) is controversial he did not jump the gun and say that i have the opinion that jv is a liability . u comprehended it wrongly and thought that i am of the opinion that jv is a liability

they are outnumbered who believe he is part of the former.
Maybe they can convince him not to qualify on full tanks. Remember he used to do that at BAR as well.

Hopefully he runs some aggressive strategies if he's racing next year. His strategies would have been successful in '03 if the car held up on him. He retired on numerous occasions when in the points or on the fringe of them.

Unfortunately, the main result was that it made him look slow.

I wholeheartedly agree. That's a major factor which led to the myth that Jacques was 'smashed' by Button. Before this thing blows up again, I'm not saying JV wasn't beaten by Button, but he wasn't destroyed as some would have us believe
