Nor can Asains - that is equally well known.

Tell me about it, I have to deal on a daily basis with Asians on our local roads.

I doubt any of them had to pay $30m to be allowed the privilege.

According to Friday's Autosport.com "Daily Grapevine" Narain Karthikeyan and Nicolas Kiesa are the frontrunners for the Williams Friday drive. The article says a decision is imminent, Karthikeyan is the favourite, and that Sam Michael is insisting the choice will be made on technical grounds: "The key requirement for a third driver is that they are consistent and give good technical feedback. Even the ability to learn a track is almost secondary because of the simulations we have. I have been surprised by the abilities of some of the guys we have been speaking to."
Williams test role down to Karthikeyan, Kiesa

Williams F1 have apparently narrowed their search for a third driver down to two.

According to Autosport magazine, former Jordan driver Narain Karthikeyan and ex-Minardi pilot Nicolas Kiesa have emerged as the front runners for the job, which was previously held by Antonio Pizzonia.

While Williams technical director Sam Michael says the final decision would be made on technical grounds, the team have made no secret that finances will be important as well.

Former BAR-Honda test driver Anthony Davidson would seem to be the ideal candidate given his past testing experience, however, he has made no secret of the fact he won't pay in order to secure an F1 job.

With the loss of BMW as an engine supplier, Williams will be forced to pay for their Cosworth engines in 2006. That would make a pay test driver a necessity in order to ease the strain on the team's budget.

Karthikeyan has considerable backing from Indian sponsors while Kiesa likely brings similar backing from Dutch sponsors.

IRL champion Dan Wheldon has also been mentioned as a possibility but recent reports suggest he is closer to joining the BMW-Sauber squad.

A final decision will likely be made in time for Williams first winter test session next week in Barcelona

Williams in 2006 could be: Mark Webber, Nico Rosberg and Narain Karthikeyan! Oh dear...

Scary thought, God forbid either of the two race drivers gets injured...

We haven't seen any rookies really perform in a top team since Villeneuve in '96... Although I suppose Williams is something less than a top team now :(

You could say that! I shouldn

2006 is a rebuilding year, new engine, new tire supplier, a new driver, hell 2006 is really up in the air for them.

Poor Williams, in just over ten years they've gone from hiring the likes of Prost and Senna, to scraping the very bottom of the barrel for a third driver in Narain. Quite sad really. I thought Doornbos would have got this job, but I hear he may get one of the Red Bull Friday drives.
