Toyota star Jarno Trulli has criticised Formula 1's new qualifying system for being too "complicated".

The old maligned one-lap shoot-out will be replaced by a three-part knock-out system for 2006.

But the Italian, a director of the Grand Prix Drivers Association, told reporters at the Toyota Motorsport Festival at its Fuji Speedway circuit in Japan that the format is not popular among the drivers.

not as much of a farce as this years! i'm glad they've changed it and look forward to the new system. whilst the old system was the best last year's had to be changed.

Bernie feels this will bring lot more excitement in watching saturday event.

But fans of Minardi's, Jordan's, Redbull, Sauber will feel otherwise.

During 2005, they saw there drivers mostly in the quali or when being overtaken by the leaders. Exclusive view of these drivers will become less and less and Saturday may bring lesser audience. That is for the TV viewing. I thing Bernie is out of tpuch with the world and this new format does the opposite then what he wanted it to do.

But quali format goes, it brings the drivers closest to the race situation as the track will be with other drivers tryin to get a good lap. But as he says it will be lot more confusing but only intially because it is a new format.

This format is not a one man show. More team effort from now on as the teams has to put their heads together and advise the driver in the quali.

This years qualifying may have been a farce but at least ALL of the cars got equal time on the track in qualifying.

The fact that the cars WON'T get equal time on the track next season is what makes it a farce regardless of if the qualifying format is exciting or not.

The current system is intolerable, a complete shambles. The 2006 system will be entertaining, more so than the 2005 format, but still quite inferior to the pre-2003 format.

You forget that Reb Bull have hired a heep more people to design the RB2 and now they have Adrian Newey. I think Red Bull have a good chance of beating Toyota and BAR next season.

i do see where you're coming from, in that the priniciple for changing the pre-2003 format is no longer being applied, but the important thing is we are rid of the dreadful quali system that was 2005, and we'll see the cream rise to the crop. i can't wait to see the 5 legitinately fastest drivers battling in the final session. should be very exciting if we have a competitive field like this year!
