Williams Signs Concorde Agreement

Recommended Posts

both went into decline after some success and had one small upturn, then went downhill. There is a comparison.

you cant compare a now defunct team(that was at its best days a midfield team)with the 16 time champions ,who have consistently achieved victories ,and are one of the most successful f1 teams

in the last three decades

You can compare anything, apples to oranges, narain to senna even. Jordan did have an upturn, it was Brazil 2003. Look at the similarities.

FRY PREDICTS PEACE IN F1

: Friday, 09, December, 2005, 14:02 .,I-TV -F1

Honda Racing boss Nick Fry expects Formula 1’s political split to end before the 2006 season commences.

Grand Prix racing has been divided in recent years, with a manufacturer-led group threatening to organise a breakaway championship from 2008 if Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA didn’t offer the teams a better deal.

But earlier this week Williams became the latest team to defect back to Bernie’s side, with boss Sir Frank Williams urging the remaining members of the rebel Grand Prix Manufacturers Association to follow his example for the good of the sport.

Williams believes that there is no need to continue with plans for a breakaway series because most of the GPMA’s demands have been met.

Now Fry predicts that the uncertainty facing F1 could be resolved before racing resumes.

“I’d be very disappointed if we went into next season in a situation of flux,” the Honda boss told Reuters.

“At the moment there still is a threat because we haven’t resolved all the issues and the car manufacturers need another route in case the issues aren’t resolved.

“Discussions between the teams and the FIA and FOM (Ecclestone’s organisation) have been progressing very well over the last few weeks.

“There’s still work to do but in my view it’s headed in the right direction and if we can resolve those issues which remain then a situation of stability is on the horizon.”

Sources suggest that Ecclestone is now offering teams a much larger share of F1’s revenue.

Honda, Toyota, BMW-Sauber, McLaren-Mercedes and Renault remain part of the GPMA, while Williams, Ferrari, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and MF1 have all signed up to Bernie’s new Concorde Agreement.

WORLD COUNCIL APPROVES NEW-LOOK F1

: Friday, 09, December, 2005, 17:50 ITV-F1

The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council has rubber-stamped the governing body’s plans to “drastically reduce the cost of competing” in Formula 1 and to “make it easier to overtake without increasing cornering speeds”.

At a meeting in Monaco today, the council agreed the basis of the 2008 technical regulations, which will be finalised later this month.

The new rules package will include the following:

* A standard electronic control unit (ECU)

* Long-life engines

* Long-life gearboxes

* A single tyre supplier

* Restrictions on the ability of the teams to change their aerodynamics during the season

* Rev-limited engines

Most of these changes have been on the table for some time, but confirmation of the fine details is eagerly awaited by teams and fans alike.

It is hoped that the standard ECU, a device that engine manufacturers have previously been wary of, will allow the eradication of driver aids such as traction control, by removing fears that electronic trickery cannot be effectively policed.

The restrictions on aero development will also be a substantial change to the F1 ethos.

At present, top teams introduce new parts at virtually every race, and many make substantial aero upgrades during the season.

Other proposals will come as less of a culture shock.

The staged introduction of long -life engine rules has already begun, with teams having to make each engine last two races from 2005.

The impending switch to a single tyre supplier has long been taken for granted, with Michelin likely to withdraw before 2008 due to its objection to this principle.

More radical changes - such as the CDG wing proposal - were not mentioned in today's announcement, but are likely to be discussed before the 2008 package is finalised.

Yes indeed, welcome back. You will pleased to know that I launched an investigation into your disappearance and then complained directly to admin. Even though you are a Narain fan, you are an asset to the forum.

The first I like, it will lead to the loss of TC. I also like the idea of a single supplie. The rest I don't like at all.

I know the pefect way to slow the cars down instead of these horriable changes.

At the moment a f1 car uses about 2 litres per lap, the FIA should introduce a rule saying that there car can only use 1.5 litres per lap. That would slow the cars down.
