Karthikeyan Hopes To Continue Testing In 2007

Recommended Posts

I am sorry, Gorilla :P

Well, if one are to compare a driver with the absolute worst drivers of the past five years that leaves the driver in question looking decent but with little credit. Ide and Yoong are ofcourse worse than NK, but that does not make NK a deserving driver. Comparing him to Monterio will give us the best picture, but then again he is yet another totally undeserving driver whom has forced his way in through the weight his money has with his short-funded Midland.

Really, I think we need to end this topic. I revert to my former post where I concluded that NK is not much of a driver but a good champion for motorsport in India.

that does not mean he should be subject to unjust critisism

You just don't give up do you?

What has been unjust in my, or anyones else's critisism of NK? The boy is just not good enough for a race seat, and unless there is a sudden mass death of drivers he will never get a drive. He had his time in the sun (which he should not have had in the first place) and hopefully this can aspire racing and subsequently create some decent Indian drivers in genereations to come. But for what NK is concerned, he is worthless even as a tester, which is reflected in the fact that he won't even become 3rd driver for Williams now that Wurz have been elevated to driver. I think that speaks volumes.

Even someone as shockingly biased towards the pathetic excuse for a driver NK has to admit the the VERY average Gene was even better!

Facts please. How was Gene better, a reasoned analysis would be nice. I don't consider you an authority on F1 (or anything for that matter).

Anyway my point is people don't care that Luca Badoer and Gene are test drivers for Ferrari, yet Williams have somehow come down in the world because they hired Narain?

Indeed it does. Further volumes are spoken by the fact that his primary function as second tester (read, pay tester) is to appease his sponsor Tata. If not for Tata, he wouldn't even have the second testing seat.

Anyway my point is people don't care that Luca Badoer and Gene are test drivers for Ferrari, yet Williams have somehow come down in the world because they hired Narain?

Badoer and Gene are both accomplished testers whose paid work contributes to the development of the car. You therefore cannot compare them to Narain who is described by the team as a second tester which in practice translates to a pay tester who primarily does marketing events.

Yes, in comparison to Monteiro, who himself does not belong on the Formula 1 grid, Narain looks decent but still worse. That is not the comparison that would be made of an ordinary or average F1 driver. No, it may be the comparison that would be made of an ordinary second tester though ;)

Ok I give up on this, people argue on these forums just for the sake of arguing and increasing their post count. Why do all NK topics have to drag on and on and on for eternity. I know F1 is on a extended break, but this thread is getting ridiculuous...carry on boys and girls...carry on....

PS: Bajo, Coulthard took Senna's seat at Williams. I still haven't forgotten the shock and horror of that event....when I saw DC's perfectly square jaw

I know that Coulthard eventually took the seat. However, he took it after it was offered to Frentzen and the German declined it.

someone asked why williams chose wurz over nk if they thought nk was good enough. wel...i accept that wurz has more experience and he can be much more consistent and deserves the driver seat after a long gap, i prefer to watch nk in the third driver seat and gain more experience, rather than racing. but i still dont know how well he would do well (as autopuma questioned) during 2008. i dont care a Sh#t what guys like bajo have to say, but i would like to see narain remain in f1, as i am convinced hes still a lot better than few guys who are currently. and i dont care how he does get the seat....

this message is for bajo....sato was thoroughly trashed from all the sides by his former team mates through out his time in jordan and bar. what is the use of saying that sato was compared to the likes of fisi? it is like comparing yoong with webber!

And what is wrong with being an 'ordinary F1 driver' half the grid could be labelled as such. You have finally come to the realisation that NK is no worse that a lot of current F1 drivers and therefore is equally entitled to a drive

The fact that so many 'ordinary' drivers are getting into Formula 1 and handling all that Formula 1 entails speaks mightily about the underlying problems of the racing.

There were always mediocre drivers, but very few could handle the difficult tracks and cars of the bygone eras. With electronic aids, sanitized Tilke tracks and so on, more Narains, Speeds and Montieros will get into the 'sport' and degrade the overall quality of what an 'average' Formula 1 driver ought to be.

Let me make renewed effort to be reasonable. Narain is not the worst driver ever to blight an F1 race. Ide and Young, to name some recent examples, beat him to that title. However, he is just not good enough for F1. He even has to pay Frank to be second test driver! When people were foolish enough to praise Sato, the hapless Japanese was mocked just as much. I was accused of racism recently when I ridiculed Ide....they all get the same treatment. Except that Karty's fans still haven't accepted he can't cut the mustard so the mockery continues. We're only trying to educate the recent Indian fans so that they can appreciate the true genii of the sport.

Good points, however....

Untill costs in F1 are significantly reduced these apparent problems will persist in the sport. A small team like Jordan(as was) cannot afford to hire a non pay driver as the economics of f1 are such that the bulk of the cash/sponsorship etc is monopolised at the front. The top teams are rumoured to spend upwards of

Unless you want to count Super Nintendo Aguri. They took 'pay driver' to the extreme by setting a team up around one driver!

JV, I am sure has been bankrolled by canadian companies
Which companies and when? I want evidence my friend!
too bad narain couldnt sell his Name and get into a top seat with 9000 km of testing in the winter of 95-96

Oh boy! First, he didn't sell his name. The name helped immensely, no doubt, but it helped him in his first steps as an F1 driver, the rest has been all to do with him. As for the testing, I don't see how he and the team could be criticised for giving Jacques the best possible chance at being competitive right away instead of him having to learn his way around the F1 circus more than he had to.

You are right, NK is no JV, but equally he is no where near amongst the worst F1 rookies over the last 10 years.

Well said.

Wait, wait...Canada has companies? When did that happen? I can assure you that at the time JV started his Formula 1 career, Canada had no companies. :P

Well I know of Molson, Labatts, Players as being Canadian brands. I know Labatts sponsored Williams (logos were on the sleeves of the overalls and on the cars) in '95 but not sure if they were there in '96.

Ah yes...they did indeed have beer companies. Leave it to the canucks to get that industry up and running first :D

Indeed, and Labatt's was sponsoring Williams way back in 1990, well before Villeneuve was in the frame...

Last year, Narain often had amazing pace but sometimes he was a bit too erratic and not as consistent, unfortunately. I don't know if Christijan is as quick as Narain over one lap, but he is a lot more consistent.

The Canadians are crafty people. They send all their hack talent down to America and we stupidly eat it up!

Indeed, as my colleagues in China would say, Americans buy everything ;)
