Beckham going for money doesnt bother me but what did annoy me is when he said that he wasnt going for the money but instead he was going to improve the popularity of soccer in America which to me is clearly untrue. Indeed, I agree. Before your time the New York Cosmos brought a fading Pele to the U.S. to do the same thing, it worked in a way as youth league soccer really took off, and it did bring interest to a wide degree, but this ploy by the Galaxy won't have the same affect. I dont know what it would take for the average American to become interested in Soccer/Football. For Australia it was doing so well in the World Cup. On paper it does sound like a boring sport to watch but in reality it is one of the most nerve racking sports around. Afew years ago there would be a hope in hell i would bother to stay up til 3am to watch a Socceroos match but it is a completly different story now and Soccer has joined a exculsive club of sports that i will stay up for which are on at terrible hours. I do hope Soccer does become popular in America as it is the most popular sport in the world and every country should be interested in it but i dont think Beckham moving to America is the catalyst Soccer needs in America to move into a mainstream sport. You are thinking of the womens soccer team which was dominate for a few years in the '90's and early this century, the mens squad has had moments but that is all. Yeah, I agree... Homegrown superstars that every teenager has posters of plastered on their bedroom walls is what American Soccer needs. Players like Freddie Adu! He is superb, and there is infact a big rumor that he will be moving to Manchester United in the English summer. As for Beckham, there are only two reasons I can see for Him moving to America... 1. The money, and his stupid wife clearly loves lots of this so it could be. 2. The fame, lets be honest Beckham is only good enough to really be a regular in average mid table team in Europe and he would slowly fade away. Now at least he will be on everyones lips in the American soccer community for the next few years. The guy loves attention, he is worse than Paris Hilton!!! The problem Australian soccer had was competing against already established football leagues such as NRL, AFL and Rugby Union, all these sports are extremely popular and Soccer just couldnt gain popularity in direct compition with these other codes. Then Football Federation Australia (or FFA) decided that they couldnt win against the other codes so they decided that instead of having their national competition in winter (February to September) when all the other codes played they would hold their competition in Summer (Late September to February) which meant that they had far less competition from other codes to deal with. Maybe the American Football Federation could do the same thing so they have their soccer season in a different part of the year to the NFL season. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I meant to reply to this earlier... yeah I agree, It is indeed sad to see a team lining up week in week out in the English premiership with no English players. I'm sure we will beat them this coming wednesday though since its at the emirates stadium and Arsenal are really the better team. But before then we have the Bolton game to be watching on sunday, which I think will see Arsenal get some more points in the Premiership. The reason i asked is there have been alot of rumours going around that Football Federation Australia have been negotiating with him to become Australia's next coach. I suppose they'll release a DVD on that too. And had to laugh about what Rafa said about "the little clubs" referring to them. I want Kewell back. And I want Chavski to lose every game they have. Lucas Neill (ankle) Craig Moore (hamstring) Luke Wilkshire (knee) Mark Schwarzer (back) Jason Culina (wife having baby) Mark Bresciano (wife having baby) Mark Viduka (calf muscle) The current squad is filled with players ive never heard of and didnt play a single match in the World Cup. Its effectively 7 points since Uniteds goal difference is miles ahead of any other team including Chelski... United could effectively loose their upcoming games to Chelski & Liverpool & so long as they win the rest they will be champs.. Im holding thumbs!!! I really did find Ronaldo's dive amusing though.
