Dr. T is planning to use Vettel as the third driver on some fridays sessions. This means Heidfeld and Kubica have to sit out alternately. Both the drivers have now spoken against the strategy publicly. Dr. T calls it team building. I think its the carrot and the stick strategy.

What do you think about BMW's driver rotation policy? Is it fair on the main drivers? Is Formula 1 a drivers championship with a prize for the constructor or is it a constructors championship with a prize for the drivers?

So it looks like I'm the only person who has voted for the "great way to build the team for the future" option. The only way I could make sense of it was to think about what has already occured and worked to this degree. Okay, so they bring in Kubica (was he even a blip on anyone's radar?) as a Friday/Test driver, he proves to be quick, JV proves to be expendable, and voila! you have a fresh and exciting driver. Granted, this could be an isolated incident as Kubica seems to be the real deal.

But hey, it happened. It worked. It could plausibly happen again.

Also, this is a very GERMAN way of looking at it - empirically. Thus it makes sense for BMW to do. Otherwise I would say nurture your drivers and don't let a world champion worry about some random Pole taking your drive.

it may very well be a very German way to look at it. I find it reasonable, I think Kubi should be allowed to drive fridays at the tracks he has not been at thus giving him some extra help and if Kubi has been at a track. Also, its not like Vettle is driving every Friday, i think its more of a three way rotation, from the way it sounds.

Personally I think it's a stupid idea. You can put pressure on drivers by comparing times in testing if need be. I think most teams have a very good idea of the respective abilities of their drivers from all the data they get. They need to use the Friday tests effectively and turning them into a shootout means that the race drivers have less time to set up their cars for the race and also that what time they do get on Fridays will be primarily spent trying to look quicker than Vettel on Friday rather than setting up the car for the race on Sunday.

I would put my second vote on the second option down, not because I agree that its a good way to build the team (see above) but because it does suggest that Vettel is being groomed for a race seat in BMW. I would think Nick is feeling the pressure.

Silly idea if you ask me, it just shows Dr Mario inexperience IMO.

MT should be giving his two race drivers as much time in the car as he can, they are the ones that race and score the points that keep the team moving forwards as constructors.

The only benefit is if MT is looking at giving NH the punt if SV proves to be a sensation like RK, still this theory is flawed by NH lengthy contract with BMW.

I've been a manager in the past, though of course not to Herr Mario's scale, and I wouldn't call de-stabilizing my team team-building. The most successful team in recent history is Ferrari, and if a team wants to be equally as successful, in my way of thinking, that team should emulate Ferrari. Ferrari didn't pull this crappola on their drivers. Neither did Renault. Mario is off-the-mark, I voted 'Rubbish'.

Yeah, really rubbish, simply as it means that the official F1 Video Game will be out of date all the time (kinda already is)

I just don't think it does the drivers any good, and the testers already have enough oppertunities to show themselves off.

It's rubbish :eusa:think: Yet curiously effective. And that Fettel kid is good. I think the two drivers are worried. The problem comes when Super Mario decides to throw drivers out mid contract, I doubt if the present lot will be as foolhardy as JV in that respect.

Don't think it is either good or bad for the team per se. That depends on the people involved. Considering that one of them is the infamous Dr.Mario, I wouldn't count on it to improve the team. Anyways my vote went for "It's BMW, who cares?"

I meant that I care what happens.

I voted crap idea, I think both of them will be motivated enough just to see who will be top dog in the team.

I think Nick will race his a## off to bury Kubica, but on the other hand I think Kubica will want to bury Nick and prove himself.

This could be just as interesting as the Massa and Kimi question.
