Does anyone know if it'll be banned soon? I was thinking it would be banned in 2008 but I'm not too sure

Banned? *eyes suspiciously at the mods* <_<

Should be 2008. CDG wing and something else I forgot has been pushed back but nothing else has been said about TC.

2008 for standarized ECU's aswell supposidly.

Actually ive lost track of FIA's whacky antics so cant be 100%

Oh theres has been talk of completely freeing up driver aid rules though....see whacky bunch of

It will be banned when the standardised ECU's come into force.

I cant wait for traction control to be banned as drivers like Coulthard and Barrichello will have a advantage over younger drivers as they both drove in formula 1 before traction control was introduced so they will find it easier to adapt. On a side note, does anyone know what year traction control was introduced?

I have no idea when was it introduced. Mostly because at first it was some sort of "secret weapon" so no team would openly admit they used it. It started around the 80's I guess, thought some sort of traction control might have existed before. Ah, well...I don't know!

Surely DC will be retired by the time this happens.

I thought traction control was going to be banned after the 2007 season. If Coulthard drives well this year i see no reason why he wont be in F1 next year.

because soon he'll be needing a walking stick!

i say ban all driver aids, make it harder for them. Also could give JB an advantage as he relies on TC less than most other drivers

Thats OK. After all you dont need to do alot of walking in formula 1 unless you have a mercedes engine in the back of your car.

I agree 100%. After all this drivers are suppose to be the best in the world so im sure they can handle it.

JB needs all the help he can get.

Id say younger driver fresh out of lower series without traction control will have it easier adapting then DC and such who have been using TC for so long.

Think it came in around the time MS came in really.

There are chances the young guns could go even faster, DC may still be in trouble! :P

I hate TC too, and in fact, I hate having it on my own car (especially having it on by default) because it's almost killed me a few times. Like, you're pulling out into a gap in traffic and one of the tires hits a slick spot, and suddenly the gas pedal does nothing. I know the F1 system likely works better, but what's the point? It's supposed to be a driving competition, not a tech expo. Let the manufacturers shine by building reliable cars that go the race distance without breaking.

the only problem with banning TC now though is that the cars no longer have any mechanical or aero grip due to Mad Max and The Crypt Keeper (my new name for Brunie, the two must be about the same age)

It was introduced I believe in 1992 or 1993 and banned for '94. And I dont think it would do rubens much good, he is one of the drivers that has a tendancy to lean on the TC a bit more.

I think people started talking about Traction Control in the 90's with the Williams, but many teams were suspected of using TC years before that.

Option 13?

Was that the first real case or was it just an extremely sneaky one

Ah i see. Wouldn't be surprising, its not really that advanced compared to the other stuff in F1 cars. A lot of the drivers blamed the huge spate of accidents we saw in 1994 to the loss of the TC making the cars undrivable. Should certainly spice things up although hopefully to a slightly less lethal level this time :D

I don't know if the (in)famous "Option 13" ever existed, but at the time it was believable as most teams were pretty much doing whatever they wanted under the oblivious gaze from the FIA who was too busy counting money...until Imola. Then the FIA decided that they could do even more money by micromanaging F1 teams until they turned the F1 circus into what we have now where the only thing that is not already specified in the rules is the car's liveries :(

I am not sure excatly how the TC issue started, but I clearly remember hearing about it for the first time in the 80's (I was perhaps 12 or 13 years old) related to formula one cars.

I think it was 1993. it was not an overly exciting season, and people basically got fed up saying the cars where too easy to drive, so the FIA cut the TC for 1994 along with a large chunk of downforce

Wasn't it 95 they took extra downforce away? I remember getting a clip of 95 spins, due to those changes.

They did cut a lot in 94 as well (both before the season and during it)
