The Official I Hate Max Mosley Thread

Recommended Posts

Everyone is complaining about lack of grip on low and even medium bends, and dirty air.

Nobody said "we have too much and therefore cannot overtake".

So what is your point exactly ?!

Drivers always want more of everything, more downforce, more speed, more acceleration. Just because they want more doesnt mean the sport wouldnt be better will less.

Whos is Max Mosley again? I've seen him been interviewed before but I can't remember which manufacturer he works for.

I knew I've heard of him before! I don't get what he's saying! It's as if he wants to change F1 cars completely! It's like the complete, if not is, opposite of Murray_Walker's earlier idea of identical cars!

I think he is actually talking about standardised chassis

I'm not just talking about the chassis, I read more of the article & saw that he was talking about flexi wings being on all F1 cars & completely changing the sponsors on the teams F1 cars!

Ah yes, sorry. I personally would like to see the aerodynamic rules altered, as flexing aero parts would give car designers a lot more scope for experimentation and improvement, and with the engine freeze, it could stop stagnation occuring. I am against the standard chassis idea, the whole point of Formula 1 is that it is meant to be the pinnacle of motorsport technology, with 11 (soon to be 12) teams battling it out to see who can do the best design job. Formula 1 is meant to be a competition between mechanics and designers as much as it is between drivers, and taking that away will destroy the very essence of what makes Forumla 1 what it is. I hope to hell max takes a sensible pill here

but that would make the cars faster and would be against all that is F1

How? the whole idea of F1 is to make your car as fast as possible, and if it was legal everyone would be doing it

it was a sarcastic statement. making your car go faster is obviously one of the key components of racing. it just seems mosley has been doing just about everything to keep that from happening.

The reason I watch F1 is the quality of the driving, which I believe is higher than any other open wheel series, including CCWS. Most people outside of the US, and plenty there too, think the quality of driving is highest in F1 and that's why F1 is so popular around the world imho, not because normal people really care about traction control or fancy aerodynamics.

Conversely, even most reasonably committed F1 fans know very little about the technology. If you want proof look at the Technical subforum here (on one of the best F1 websites!) and see (1) how many people post there regularly and (2) how well-informed the posts are - I mean, apart from people like Mike there really aren't that many people who know much at all. Half the people there didn't know the difference between downforce and drag recently!

I think I apply to your description  . I started watching F1 when I was a kid(that's no more than the last 7-8 years, seeing that I'm still a kid) and I still haven't tried to understand the technology behind the cars, I think mostly because I'm the "average F1 fan". I don't know the difference between downforce and drag because I can't understand the words, sorry :P But my point is that for now I watch F1 because of the drivers. Maybe if I can find my place in this forum and I translate the words I don't get when I stumble upon them I will understand more about F1 technology, but until then...

Anyways, even if I can't reason my thinking, or if I'm not right at all, something tells me that if all the teams had to have the same chassis F1 wouldn't be the same, and somehow I agree that this drastic change doesn't look good. I hope the FIA (with their president in the lead) let it go...
