Eric 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 I wasn't sure where to put this, but decided to put it here. F1 will never return to the US and it's because of MotoGP. I think MotoGP's gunna hit it big here. The youthlings of America are the bike generation. MotoX and all that jazz is big in the US. MotoGP also has many Americans, who are doing relatively well, and it has 2 USGPs. Plus, there's a lot of bike racing in the US, so there's a firm development system for more Americans to be a part of the sport, unlike F1 where there is little to no open wheel development. MotoGP will overtake F1. Funny. MotoGP overtaking and F1 not being able to. So the big question: will it kill NASCAR? No, it won't, but NASCAR may kill itself. However, NASCAR wants males aged 18-35, and those males will be the bike generation pretty damn soon. Not the stock car generation. The bike generation. Now NASCAR's targeting the 18-35 males with energy drink sponsors and young drivers. But that's nto working. "OH IM GUNNA WATCH NASCAR CUZ MONSTER SPONSORS A CAR"...no. Just no. Now are you going to go watch bike racing because you go dirt biking in your backyard? More likely than because you drink Red Bull... I feel bike racing will take off in the US. Autumnpuma 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 No it won't. We've had bike racing for many years and the fanbase stays the same. It may seem like there are alot of bike riders in the US, but it's not enough. A goodly portion of the bikes sold here are the cruising Harleys and the like. Those riders don't watch sissy crotch-rockets. They watch NASCAR. Now you've split the demographic up before you start. What's left is too small to create a large audience. Eric 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 Yes, Mike, but the 18-35 males ride the crotch rockets, not the Harleys...
Autumnpuma 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 I see a fair number of that age group riding the cruisers every day during my brain-numbing commute. To answer this, you'd have to compare the rating numbers of F1 to MotoGP. I think you'll find MotoGP a good deal less than F1.
aussief1 4 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 I disagree, F1 will return, eventually. F1 needs to return to the States. It's just too big of a market for Formula One to ignore.
goferrarigo 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 F1 needs to return to the States. It's just too big of a market for Formula One to ignore. What i feel FIA is trying instead to do is get interest in bigger markets like China & India, which once they break will get huge profits, hence the explosion of upcoming races in Asia, to have the race at convientent times... The night race is just to appease EU, as they are loosing a lot of races to the east...

DOF_power 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 > ^ NASCAR is killing itself, and NHRA is the next numero 1 in USA motorsport. Nothing new really. Can-Am, Trans-Am, CART-Indycar all had their days and eventually faltered. I dont belive a forein/international form of motorsport will ever be in a top spot in the USA. Prufrock 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 F1 will never be back in the US until Bernie is out of the picture. When even the movers of Las Vegas ultimately say the show the France family puts on is more desireable to their clients than Bernie's, what more can you say? Maybe this will change with new blood, new management style, etc., but I just don't see how it will. As far as Indy goes, I'll be at the 500...probably not the MotoGp race. DriftingGuy 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 The United States is an island unto itself metaphorically speaking. Human beings evolved differently there. They developed bigger bellies and bums for example and they also developed a taste for enjoying watching race cars turn left every 15 seconds. Must be something to do with Darwin's theory of evolution. Alright, I'll shut up now in case the creationists start feeling insulted.
