From ITV-F1.com:

GIRLS AND CHAMPAGNE BANNED

Last Updated: Tuesday, 30 March , 2004, 17:30

Motor racing tradition must take a back seat at this weekend's Bahrain GP.

They have been synonymous with grand prix racing since the early days, but at this weekend's Bahrain GP pitbabes and champagne will be out.

Culture in the Gulf kingdom does not permit the drinking of alcohol and scantily-clad girls would seriously offend many Bahrainis.

Organisers of the grand prix have assured the Kingdom's politicians that such behaviour will not feature during the race weekend.

Adel al-Moawada, the deputy speaker of parliament, told the Telegraph newspaper: Shaking the champagne and spreading it on people, this is something that I don't think the people here will accept.

The organisers know how to run this event without contradicting the culture of the place they are in;

Instead drivers will be given non-alcoholic drinks to spray each other.

I think Montoya has a good chance to win Bahrain. The BMW engine will be very good on the long straights and they also don’t restrict engine-running time as much as other teams do. Therefore, the Williams drivers should have more laps to learn the track. Ralf isn’t going to be a threat and Montoya is a very quick driver so he has a good chance. However, who would bet against Michael Schumacher making it three in a row?

You guys should vote for who you really think will win the race not who you think will be least voted for. If that was the way things are everyone would just vote for someone like Takuma Sato! The lack of Champaign on the podium will be disappointing not just for the fans but also the drivers – hey congratulations Michael here’s some fruit juice!

Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain International Circuit said: "Here in Bahrain we want to keep the traditional ceremony for the winner but to do it with a non-alcoholic beverage that is in keeping with our culture and traditions.", so the winners will spray "Warrd" in the podium...

I was thinking...if every country in the world use the same "tradition" formula, in Mexico we can celebrate with "tequila" with the winner national hymn played with "mariachis"...what do you think?

So, please depending in your country...how do you people could celebrate the podiums?

greetings from mexico city

The Williams BMW has the strength to last more so than their compeitors.

BAR..F Honda's motor is going , "Up in Smoke" ...I just feel they are due for more motor issues.

Hi everybody!

Bahrain is said to be quite similar to Malaysia. I think that if in Malaysia Alonso would have been 2nd in the qualifying lap he would have won the race so i say Alonso

I don’t know if any of you guys have an opinion on this but I’m not impressed by Bahrain. The facilities appear to be state of the art and it’s a brand new GP but I don’t think it’s a very challenging circuit. I was watching qualifying on the onboard cameras and the track doesn’t appear to be very demanding, just a copy of various other corners on the F1 calendar and a few straights thrown in. It may be perfect for overtaking but I’m not particularly looking forward to playing it on the latest F1 videogames…

I'm speechless after ANOTHER retirement for KIMI RAIKKONEN. The end of his title hopes...by all means he won't win the championship even if he wins every race....i reckon he'll switch to another team in 2005. I just can't stand another episode of kimi's retirement. It's making me sick.

I believed McLaren needed to stabilize their engine life because their point scoring effort will need to be guarded in the early part of this year to SALVAGE what now looks like 5th in the WCC.

How Sad to see a Team faulter so dramatically over one season and this is made even worse by the fact that BAR..FFFF has commandly shown what they did not have last year RELIABILITY ...its almost like the two teams changed motors and results.

Renault has also started so subdued with either Trulli or Alonso being slow out of the gate with Webber anchored down by the ails of his Jaguar.

Man it could even get worse.

ya McLaren should do something and fast or they might end up loosing their big 4 status ..... things are looking very very bleak for them.... kimi's engine doesnt seem to ever last.... damn i wish mclaren had a honda this yr rather than the unreliable merc

8) Time for the magazine eds. to scramble and get the everybody's

kicking Ferrari's and Bridgstones Butt's and start getting some

suprise of the opening fly-aways, BAR-HONDA-- storys going.

Yup it looks like reliabilty wins over radical change again! What a

concept ehh? What's happening to the ONE SHOT WONDERS?

Maybe it's time for the mid-three sit back and rethink what the

Sam Hill they are going to do, because it's not the domination of

F1 by Ferrari that's killing interest, it's the sheer lack of effort to

do something about it by McLaren etc,Hey Ron! it's time to whip out

the old -17-D couldn't do any worse! Frank! how about doing something

with that mighty BMW lump? what a waste of a great motor! And to

all of you Schummi/Ferrari hate mongers----results----results--results

you can not argue with the results.  8) l

It could get worse very much so ... lets say the other Teams; Williams & Renault correct their cars issues and their drivers awake from their mistakes ,couple against Kimi losing a little bit of settled mindset (reassured confidence?)should that McLaren do last years BAR..FFF thing .

I do not like it as a F1 Fan ,it was hard to see J.V. Honda trackside so many times ..even Button got a little cheesed off in Indy.

I do not want to say the word "Dread" ...so I just typed it :? but McLaren team falling flat is like watching a three-legged dog after a cat.

 tequila on the podium. that would be very funny! but first you need a grand prix mate!

i suppose they'd spray VB at the melbourne GP... and pour shots of sake at suzuka. :D

yeah i reckon so too...Kimi might win the championship with a honda (although not very likely) but he'll be somewhere near micheal...at this stage it seems likely that kimi can't even finish a race for the whole season..I can't imagine how's he's feeling right now...another sleepless night for him

well lets just hope the european races brings more cheer to the mclaren camp.... i think i read somewhere that they dont expect to be reliable till the spanish gp or something so thts just 2 races away so i'm gonna be patient and wait it out.... but in my opinion winning the championship drivers and constructors is all but over for mclaren... their only hope is to maybe pull their act together and get a win or two in the remaining races....
