I hope you guys are "Hungary" for some F1 because there's another Grand Prix this weekend ahahahah good one Eric high five.

The Budapest Speedbowl isn't as bad of a track as everyone thinks it is.  Maybe.  I like it, so much so that I've waken up to see more races here than I've seen at other tracks like the Circuit of the Americas.

So you don't like the Hungaroring?  Well it could've been the Hungaro Bullring so at least it's better than that (disregard the arrow, I don't have any kind of image editing at all on my computer so that's the closest thing to a line I could draw on my computer).

Posted Image

Fernando Alonso is leading the points with Ferrari.  The last time Fernando Alonso led the points heading into a Hungarian Grand Prix was 2006, which was also the last Hungarian Grand Prix for which I was not a member of this forum, and so it probably had a much better race thread than this.

This is the first time Felipe Massa has raced at Hungary since the last time he raced at Hungary, which was the first time he had raced at Hungary since the first time he had race at Hungary since his injury here in 2009.  In Massa's two post-injury races at Hungary, he has scored 20 points, just shy of the 23 points he has scored in ten races this season.

THEY SAID HE MIGHT NEVER WIN AGAIN, and he still hasn't, but Jenson Button looked a lot better in Germany, declaring that McLaren have the fastest car again after wholesale updates for that race.  Qualifying will be key for Lotus, but even more importantly for them will be racing.  Red Bull and Red Car (singular, not plural, and you know why) should be up there, too.

I think the stewards should investigate Marussia this weekend.  It isn't legal to Pic Glocks and things are getting stolen from the paddock all the time.

Alright that's all I have for you guys, thankfully, now make it a good one because this is the last one we get all summer...

Pic & Glock must be the silliest lineup for a team. Ever. That's a good lineup for a comic strip, not for the pineapple (sic) of motorsport!

Hungary 2006? Wanna recall Hungary 2006? First, let me remind you that Alonso does not consider as being the best in the wet, and we also pointed here that he is certainly not the Regenmeister, a vacuous title in any case. But as proved these past days, he is no slouch either. He never compared himself with Ayrton and afaik, nobody ever brought comparisons between his races in  the wet and Donnington, 1993. By Hungary, 2006 the Renault was already deprived of the luxury of the mass dampers. The race was in the wet and Alonso started from 15th place. His only consolation was that Schumi didn't start among the top ten either.

Ouch.

But then...

All that in 3 laps, you might have noticed a certain guy in a red car with a red helmet being ovetaken on the outside.  Right before the end of lap 1 you might notice another guy in a red car with a yellow helmet, perhaps you  know him :P

I don't think I could pull those 3 laps on my Codemaster's F1 with all drivers' aid on in easy mode.!

He took the lead in a chaotic race. Finally crashing due to a faulty adjusted wheelnut in his car (so much for his good luck)

That is, of course, THE fundational race for Jenson. At least for the Buttonites. We, the rest of the humanity know that he was LUCKY to INHERIT first place from Alonso when all he did was climbing from 14th to 2nd, big deal!

Oh, and also was Pedro de la Rosa's first podium of a total tally so far of...one.

Yeah that race was a lottery I tell ya!

That one's tied for third on my all-time favorites list that I just made up in my head right now.  Interlagos 2008 painfully takes first, Nürburgring 2007 painfully takes second...I guess I really enjoy races where Massa loses something in the most heartbreaking of fashions.  The other third place would be Montréal 2011.  The other ones ranked third are probably all the races I've watched this season.

Speaking of three, three years after Alonso lost a wheelnut, he lost an entire wheel at Hungary, three years before this year's race, and what's all very interesting about that is that Alonso is going for his third WDC and has three wins this year counting toward that bid, which, if successful, would tie him with, among others (six have done it, and six happens to be three times two, which curiously is the number that comes just before three), Ayrton Senna and his three WDCs, which connects him to Dale Earnhardt, who is most famous for driving #3, and actually won a race on May 1, 1994, saying a few words about Senna afterward:

Coincidentally, this is the third post in a thread about the Hungarian Grand Prix, which has three free practices scheduled, and we can talk about all of them, qualifying, and the race here.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and just happened to come accross it when trawling for comments on the "Das Fantastiche Nonlotterymaxmosleybelovedmostpunishingschaung Deutschland Helmut Marko Gp" Posted Image

Having read through that topic and now this one, I have to say it was really good fun to get away from the type-in-driver-of-choice haters prevalent on most forums and comment sections and read some very funny 'reflections' and 'opinions'.

I hope that this is a general trend here. We all have our 'Fav(s)' but all geniuses are flawed and getting bitchy about one or other just degenerates into a slanging match.

Thanks for making my Monday morning such a laugh (so far).

People defer to statistics over qualitative observations far too often, and I'm not a fan of comparing drivers across different eras, so what I'm going to do is give you some numbers to compare Fernando Alonso to two past drivers.

If Alonso wins, he will score number 31 in 188 race starts.  Nigel Mansell had 31 in 187 race starts.  Nearly even percentages there.

A podium for Alonso will bring his total to 80.  Ayrton Senna also had 80 podia, but his came in just 161 starts.

What does it mean?

Nothing, and no one should try to make it mean anything, but I found it interesting to know that Fernando could become Your Nige this weekend in Hungary, which Nigel apparently was during his two years in CART... ;)

That would also mean his 31st win on his 31st birthday.

Those are the two main reasons for me wanting an Alonso win there.

Because, believe it or not, I'd rather don't see him winning at Hungary Posted Image I want a hard fought battle until the end. Actually, even winning in Hungary he might end up playing catch up for the rest of the season, but it will be  more thrilling with another guy winning at Hungary. And I still want a Poochie victory this year!

EDIT: BTW, welcome to the forums, Missingwheelnut! You came to the right place. Which is totally wrong. If you know what I mean.

FIA set to force Red Bull to change engine mapping
By Jonathan Noble Tuesday, July 24th 2012, 14:33 GMT

Red Bull Racing is set to be forced to make changes to the engine mapping of its cars for this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, AUTOSPORT has learned, with the FIA poised to issue a clarification in the next 48 hours on the matter.

Following the controversy at Hockenheim on Sunday, when Red Bull Racing was referred to the stewards to explain why its cars were operating with engine maps that had reduced torque in the mid rpm range, motor racing's governing body is now close to acting.

AUTOSPORT understands that the FIA is planning to issue an official clarification on the matter before action gets underway in Budapest on Friday.

This document is almost certain to make it clear that what Red Bull Racing was doing in Germany will no longer be deemed acceptable.

Sources suggest that the FIA will lay down specific limits on the variations of torque that can be used throughout the rev range - with Red Bull Racing believed to have been using much less than the maximum available torque in the middle rev range.

It is understood that the new limit could allow as little tolerance in torque as two per cent, which is believed to be well inside the variation shown on the engine map used by Red Bull Racing at the German GP.

By having a greater variation in its engine mapping, Red Bull Racing was able to both minimise wheelspin and also pump more gases through its engines, therefore helping the aerodynamic benefits that the outfit still gets through the use of exhaust flow at the rear of the car.

Although Formula 1 technical delegate Jo Bauer believed that Red Bull Racing's engine maps were in breach of the regulations in Germany, the race stewards did not agree - even though they also did not accept the team's explanations of what was happening.

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner was keen to play down the matter at Hockenheim, suggesting that he never had any doubt his team was in compliance with the regulations.

"Unfortunately, when you have a quick car, it's inevitable that questions are asked," he said. "F1 is a competitive business.

"The rules are pretty black and white and having looked at the evidence, the data, they [the stewards] were fully satisfied. That's the nature of Formula 1 at the end of the day. Of course, you are always going to get other teams that are going to speculate."

Even if the FIA rule clarification does mean Red Bull Racing has to make changes to its engine maps, it should be a fairly simply matter for the team to revert to settings that it used without problem earlier in the campaign.

Remember Button's win in the wet in 2006 and 2011? Well he'll win again according to this.

Quote

Race day is still a concern and continues to show the highest probability of heavy rain for any of the next five days.  An area of squally showers is expected to move through parts of southern Germany and into Austria during the second half of Saturday.  It will head east and across the Hungarian border during the early hours of Sunday morning, with Budapest and the Hungaroring on its destination guide.

Indications are that some of these showers will merge into longer spells of heavy rainfall by the time this system reaches Hungary, and conditions at the circuit could be particularly challenging in the final few hours before the race.  The worst of this should be coming to an end by mid-afternoon, as air temperature takes an inevitable hit, reaching a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius.

Finally Red Bull's engine maps won't be allowed like they run in Germany. It should affect them on a track like Hungaroring.

±2% torque difference over 6,000 rpm... Some teams apparently threatened the FIA to do something or else...

The polesitter hasn't won the Hungarian Grand Prix since 2007, which was the only year in which the polesitter won in the span of 2005-2011.  I have no idea where the reputation of the Hungaroring as boring comes from, because an exciting race is determined by historical statistics and not by actually watching and enjoying it. :P

"Vettel is a champion. That’s not referring to his achievements, but rather to his approach to everything he does. He wins. All the time. His preparation is meticulous, his attention to detail reminiscent of Michael Schumacher at his peak, and his performance on the track is almost always flawless. Vettel is capable only of domination. He knows no other way... Vettel is not in Formula One to be liked. He is there to win. And in the words of Ayrton Senna, perhaps the greatest of all Formula One drivers, “Nice men don’t win.”"

Fray Luis de León said:

As we were saying yesterday...
Fray Luis de León wrote mystical poems which prompted Cervantes to proclaim León "a genius who astounds the world and who, in ecstasy, might rob us of our senses." León was also an active man who taught at the University of Salamanca, translated classical and biblical literature, and wrote on religious themes. Twice denounced before the Inquisition, he was imprisoned for "heresy," though he returned to the University to later hold the chairs of Moral Philosophy and Biblical Studies.

Tradition has it that he began his lecture the first day after returning from four years' imprisonment with the words "as we were saying yesterday..."

"On the rare occasions that I play a racing game I often think ‘you know what this needs? A boss battle or two.’ A Formula One game in which, suddenly, everybody else has a monster truck and their sole desire is to squash you. A street racing game with a tank or two blowing the roads and buildings to bits. A Nascar game with a track that occasionally bends to the right" (Adam Smith - RPS)
