Ban Refuelling?

Recommended Posts

Spec cars can be designed to make overtaking easier, since the governing body (or the contractor) would have complete control over the design. I'd be happy to introduce some of the things you recommend like ground effects, slicks etc, as well as removing most of the wings. Spec cars could also be made harder to drive (more physically demanding, or more mentally so: eg fully manual gear changes) so that more mistakes were made. Spec cars could also offer the drivers some choices that are not available at present that would aid overtaking. We might allow drivers to opt for more qualifying performance at the expense of race pace, or push to pass at the expense of downforce etc etc.

Nevertheless, the best thing about spec cars is that the drivers would all have a level playing field. But they would help overtaking too, not least because the field would be bunched up and competitive.

Aside of whether or not you are right about spec cars overtaking guarantees (you are wrong, it depends on the specs) and aside of whether or not overtaking matters that much to begin with (it doesn't), I still don't get why you want to turn F1 into THAT. I mean, what's wrong with existing spec competitions? What makes you so unhappy about those that you are compelled to fck with F1...

All this stuff that the spec series use to get more overtaking came from non-spec series. Push to pass, slicks, optional compounds, ground-effect based aerodynamics, adjustable aero. Nothing original, only FIA's stupidity and stubbornness to first ban and then keep the ban on these things.

Spec series destroy that essential part of racing called competition, as the victors as proclaimed by the sanctioning body instead of hard work and innovative thinking and actually competing.

Racing was always a man-machine competition, never a mano-a-mano driver only nonsense, it wasn't like football or tennis or other ball sports.

The biggest fan base in F1 are the Ferrari tifosi, and Enzo build his legend and this huge fanbase because he came to racing to make his cars win, as he said it "we are car builders" he never "we're a superstar driver marketing machine" .

Spec car racing is either a low cost driver development ladder series or for some delusional new fans who don't grasp the difference between ball sports and real motor racing.

You know. I come to the forum, I see the "Ban Refuelling?" topic, and I keep thinking... BAN BANNING.

Freaking bureaucrat leeches...

Hence the word 'could' rather than 'guarantee' in my original post: it depends on the specs. However, it wouldn't be difficult to make more overtaking-friendly cars than we have now.

and aside of whether or not overtaking matters that much to begin with (it doesn't)

I never said it does. Personally I don't understand the obsession with it. Nevertheless, I would rather see a little more overtaking, without turning F1 into the motor racing equivalent of basketball.

I mean, what's wrong with existing spec competitions? What makes you so unhappy about those that you are compelled to fck with F1...

 I get that a lot and my answer is the same every time. I want to see a fair contest between the best drivers in the world. If the best drivers left F1 to go to GP2 I'd be delighted. Having said that, even that has teams, so it isn't as fair as I'd like.

Yes that's true.

You're probably right. But I want to change motor racing. It's innovation, DOF, but not as we know it!

The biggest fan base in F1 are the Ferrari tifosi, and Enzo build his legend and this huge fanbase because he came to racing to make his cars win, as he said it "we are car builders" he never "we're a superstar driver marketing machine" .

I think F1 would be more popular my way.

More popular with who? Not those that know anything about it, surely. You are championing A1GP and Formula Palmer Audi, which already exist.

Well, it would be more popular with me, so you can judge for yourself! :P And yes, if the best drivers in the world raced in A1GP I wouldn't bother with F1. But they don't so what's the point of having a fair drivers' contest there. And 'innovation' is popular round here, but not with those who know anything about it either!
