Is Webber A Jerk?

Recommended Posts

ummm no one was talking about Williams picking Webber over JV we just well i just started at Jv because you started at Webber.

and about the gears did not they hay a semi auto gear box that year.

someone mentioned that if JV was any good theyd have picked him over Webber. Whao there, hold on a minute of course I was gonna give my opinion on Webber, that's what this thread is about isn't it?? That was my response. And as for the gear issue, semi auto gears means the driver has to up and down change, or one over the other, JV prefers to change gears himself seemingly.

I must say though, this topic has sparked major major debate, which is great, liven things up a bit!!

DaMata is now he won the CART championchip and hes got no drive in 2005. all that matters in F1 is F1 and come finsihs of next seasion Webber will have don a lot he may not be WDC in 2005 but 2006 and 2007 he can be.

Hey guy do you know what Webber did to impress so much in 2003?He came 3rd in qualyfing with a Jaguar in his 2nd year of F.1 and did some points outpacing an unexperienced and not very impressive team mate (Pizza boy). What did Da Matta in the same year, also is rookie one??Finished twice in the 2nd row with a Toyota (just as competitive as a Jaguar if not less) and outpaced his teammate Panis,a guy who have won a Monaco GP and was a veteran, and led a GP for laps.He also have fully dominated a Champcar Championship. So if we look at it DaMatta has performed better than Webber!!!!The only reason for him being sacked by Toyota was a political reason not a performance reason,if Williams would have picked him up instead of Webber they would only have done the right thing!!!!

Panis won the 96 Monaco GP cause he was lucky and only three cars were running.

Webber can talk all he wants, but he better back it up on the track next year against Pizzonia or (i hope) Heidfeld.

If we are to believe the praise the media gives him, Webber needs to learn that the truly great drivers don't carelessly run their mouth and let their driving do the talking. Humbleness is a sign of greatness.

well everyone says Schumacher is great but when he used to fight Hill all he did was moan and bad-mouth Hill in the media

Used to is the key phrase, Hill still bad mouths MS even today, and what a humble champion he has turned out to be!

you talk dog-poo. no offence. But Schumacher used to accuse Hill of ramming him, which was unbelievable considering schumacher's trademark move, until the last couple of years, was the cheeky swerve & ram, to try and win world championships! Worked in 94 but not in 97! Hill doesn't slag off MS now & never did. He is a gentleman & didn't reduce himself to the levels of Senna, Prost & MS who are all great drivers but like to use the media to bad-mouth rivals

Hey, what can I tell you? Its a passionate sport. If are really looking for a rude boy, JPM is your man - hands down. Sorry to burst your bubble but you cannot mention Hill in the same breath as Senna & MS. Hill was and remains a one-championship-wonder!!

I love JPM and the way he talks about MS to the media, makes f1 interesting!! There's no such thing as a 1-championship wonder. 1994 was also Hill's year, if MS hadn't cheated. I suppose u think Nigel Mansell was a 1-championship wonder? Only a great driver could win in an Arrows & a crap 1998 Jordan

Don't go putting down Nige. He's a legend. The only person in recent history or in the total history to hold the current F1 and CART World Championships. Hill also would have won another WDC if not for MS blatant crash into him. There's no way any argument at this point in time is going to put Webber above Nige or Hill. They won many races and WDCs, Webber has won jack s##t.

Simply put, it's crunch time for him. The pressure is on him big time to perform now. Now more hiding behind the safety of a bad car like the JAG or the Minadi. He's now driving a race winning car, so there is no excuses now.

What r u on about moron-boy

Ok my mistake! I was a Mansel fan (still is), he was an excellent driver. Hill never impressed me (and deep down inside you really don't believe he has that extra edge to be a great driver!).

JPM is all mouth and a couple of overtaking manouvers, if he doesn't do something drastic that is all he will have on his resume at the end of the day. They say he is very quick (true) but he he doesn't take heat very well and doesn't know when to conserve the car. Frankly 2005 is when we will know what JPM is about as Kimi will test him to the absolute limit race after race.

MS, some love him - some don't , but any driver on the grid will tell you he is a very solid driver (technically and sheer raw talent!). You may not agree and the fact the he will win 2005 again will not generate any love for him from you - but who cares!

Touche!!

Weber has never been tested. He has never had a decent team mate to test him. He is also prone to unforcd errors - look at the mess he created this season whenever he was higher up on the qualifying order. I think he will cause a few crashes earlier on in the 2005 season. Pressure is on the guy, he has the equipment to gun for podiums (note: not championship) - He is supposedly a very focused chap and technically sound (but we need to see for ourselves), personally I think the Jury is still out on his abilities.

Certainly drivers will talk smack, that's only human. But I still think great champions are truly humble, even Schumacher; perhaps not in his early days when he was not champion.

Still what I mean is there is a distinct difference with Senna and Schumacher or even Montoya egging on their immediate rivals in the heat of the moment over a championship, compared to an unproven Webber calling a pointless bottom of the ladder, and presently third driver Pizzonia a loser and a liar.

For some reason I can't see Michael doing the same with Gene or Badoer. Webber you are already signed, will be preferred driver regardless of who's in second seat, so get on with it, stop yapping and drive the damn car! He may beat Pizzonia, but Heidfeld will give him a good run and will pounce on him if Webber slips up next year.

That was really cheap - Weber taking on Antonio! He has by that very act put me smack in Antonio's camp and if they decided to go with Antonio instead of Nick, I hope he gives Weber nightmares. Weber writes off Antonio too easily and it does his credentials no good. If Antonio was all that crappy I don't think sir Frank would have him testing at Williams, or even have given him a shot at the races in place of the experienced Gene!

Let's see if Weber has any real pace behind all the talk - he might have lost sight of the fact that he is with the big boys now and cannot cry "give me a good car" anymore. Can he take the heat!!

I'm absolutely amazed by some of the comments posted on this forum. The thread's initial question asks if Webber is a joke? The majority want to base their answer on his recent 'off the cuff' comments about Pizzonia and the rest on comparisons with other drivers. Both these assumptions are completely incorrect.

Is he a Jerk?? This should be based on his history of interactions with the media and within the sport. Not just some silly comment which I'm sure he probably regrets. As I stated previously from what I've seen of him in interviews, he seems a pretty stand up guy. From reports I've seen from people who've worked with him, they all have nothing but respect and good things to say about the guy. So from that I'd say he's far from a jerk and probably quite a nice chap. I think those who are quick to make assumptions are probably the jerks around here.

As for comparisons against other drivers. It seems it's only fair to compare him against those in similar or the same machinery. On this basis he seems a pretty good driver to me. As for other formulas, this in my opinion, is also flawed. Formula 1 is in completely different league to all other forumlas. So a driver may be successful in other formulas, but never do anything in Formula 1. This makes them bad or average formula 1 drivers. Apples with apple guys. Webber has obviuosly proven himself to be a good driver to this point or he wouldn't have had renault and williams after his service. He hasn't got to this point by fluke. It's been through good driving.

It's true all this will mean nothing when it comes to comparing him to the great drivers who have been previously mentioed in this thread. the coming years will prove whether he can be considered as a great driver. At this point he is simply a good driver. I for one am eagerly awaiting the upcoming season to see what he is truley capable of!!!

Hill was and remains a one-championship-wonder!!

He won 94 and 96 in my mind, and didn't resort to cheating like a certain driver who is supose to be oh so great.

Also what makes Webber the Jerk anyway. I think Pizzonias the jerk for blaming bad and unequal equipment on his performances. These are called excuses. Shut up and get on the track and prove your worth with results. If i was in Webbers shoes I'd slag the guy off too. There's no way I'd want him in the other car. As he's stated he wants someone who will challenge him. Pretty good reasoning to me. I think he'll get that with Heidfield and I think Webber would be pleased to have him as a team mate. Whether his comments will affect the final decision??? They must have some small effect on the teams thinking.

In saying all that Pizzonia may do alright. It's just Heidfiled deserves that seat as he, like Webber is a proven performer on the track, not just testing.

1994 was also Hill's year, if MS hadn't cheated.

Hill was only even in it at the last race because the FIA did everything it could to make it so. And in 96 Hill's only real challenge came from a rookie. He shouldn't have even won one.
