Kimi Returns - So What?

Recommended Posts

typical response from the Iceman....

“It may seem like an obvious thing to miss, but with all the time spent focusing on setup I just forgot to mention it to the engineers. It makes a big difference to the way the car feels and also how I use all the dials and buttons. I think with the new wheel we can push even harder in China; I’m confident we’ll get a strong result”

Some really insightful discussion here since my last post. Thanks.

I think it's great that the luke warm Schumacher return has, in effect, made us judge Raikkonen's return far more objectively. It's not a foregone conclusion he will be great, that's for sure. I'm bo no means convinced of anything yet.

My hunch is, even car adjusted, we will not see anything special.

There you go Steve and Jay, as straight as you can get from the Iceman...

You've been wrong on Kimi b4, it just might be true if you could consider my theory why Massa was faster than Kimi... :P

That was an April fools joke by Lotus, though. ;) Surprised they don't say that at the end at this point.

Looks like after all it was not a April fools joke. Interview with James Allison - he mentions about the reversing the switches. Unless there is a clarification or a comment about the article by Lotus team, we will never know...

Q: What’s the latest on Raikkonen’s steering set-up - do we have it exactly as he likes it yet?

JA: Unfortunately it is not a fix as simple as reversing the switches on the steering wheel! Our latest set-up now gives Kimi sufficient assistance in the high speed, high load corners, but we still have yet to give him a power steering unit which offers the finesse he wants. We’re making progress in this area, but the way Kimi drives the car is to find the limit on the front axle and then adjust the car very delicately around that limit; he can only do that if the steering is giving him exquisite feedback. We are working hard to provide him with perfect equipment so that he can deliver those last few tenths in qualifying.

He mentions it exactly because of the joke ("if only it was that easy..."). Lotus' twitter feed made it clear it was an April fools joke, if there was any doubt about it.

Is he left or right handed?

Right handed, so the whole thing wouldn't even make sense.

damn... anyways it is clear now. Thanks for the clarification. Now that Lotus has confirmed that they are getting new parts for China GP and improved Aero will improve performance by two tenth of lap time. guess we will be able to see the iceman on the podium. Spraying some and drinking some champagne...

everyone is bringing updates, luckily the car seem easier than others to improve. However, I do expect Kimi on the podium as you've said...

I wouldn't discount that at all. But I have to say that rather than it being a consequence of Kimi being third fastest behind the McLarens, it's more indicative of just how open it is behind the aforementioned pair.

This year is all the better for that too.

F1 and motogp have come under fire in recent years for a whole host of reasons. However, based on 2012 so far, these two pinnacles are in very rude health.

Kimi's gf? :whistling:

Ha!

In all seriousness, he may not be right now, but I think Seb' will wind up third by year end.

Kimi will be sixth.

A shame about Kimi's race. Was nice to see him get up to second even if a Trulli Train developed. I'm disappointed with Lotus though. I imagine that thought they could hold second place and didn't bring Kimi. So either that had bad strategy with their 2 stopper, or once Kimi got into 2nd, they decided to only do a 2 stopper. That's my gut feeling and it didn't work. I still have hope Kimi will podium soon... and if he's got a good car come Spa, who knows a win perhaps?

a combination of both, aggressive strategy and no more tyres left....

Could have been simple mix up, I guess? Could have just got the wrong tyres out for the pit stops?
