Jb Vs Rb

Recommended Posts

it seems your memory is fine mate, and yes it was impressive, I just wish his whole career was like that

Oh, on the topic of next British Champ, I think it will be Lewis Hamilton.

He's certainly showing a lot of promise.

This idea that Button doesn't overtake much is current crap, last year he was one of the top overtakers and this year has done a lot too.

Anyone that needs to see an example look at Brazil last year, damp conditions and overtook 2 people in 1/2 corners.

Sorry to break your hearts - but the next British WDC is certainly not going to be JB! He might get a win or two along the way. I do not dislike him, I think he is a nice marketable lad who can drive an F1 quite well. He is good for the sport in UK - but beyond his marketability there is little more.

Tim Henman....

*yes I'm aware I've said it before.

Who was saying he doesn't overtake a lot? He has certainly done a fair amount of overtaking this season. Of course, he has also been overtaken a lot as well and often under less than flattering circumstances such that the criticism of his lack of defensive abilities has only gotten stronger this season.

Depends which races you are talking about? He has on occasions been weak, yes I agree with that, but also some of those are down to the lack of race pace in the car compared to qualifying. What amazed me was how Ralf seemed unable to get past him in the race, but Rubens seemed to be able to after a few laps. I think Rubens and Jenson will be a very interesting line up next year and I don't expect one to thrash the other - a close call!

Jenson showed everyone how good he is at overtaking at Turkey and Spa this year (the move on JV was fantastic). He does need to improve his defensive driving ability though; perhaps Gil de Ferran can give him some coaching!

Spa this year (the move on JV was fantastic).

I think Funkejay will have something to say about that.

Monty posted a video of that some time ago. Villenueve virtually moved over since he had a much heavier car, it was hardly 'great overtaking'.

Oh come on cavallino you sound pathetic. It was a great move - put your dislike of JB to 1 side and admit the truth for once. JV did not move over, we all saw it

JV did not move over, he put up an excellent (but fair) fight on heavier fuel. Hopefully Jenson learnt something from that...

Please give me an example of jenson's poor defensive driving. Cos I can't remember any, except possibly imola. I think brazil he did very well to hold off RB for so long

Indeed! Jenson isnt that much of a risk taker and if he knows the car behind is far faster and he is not actually racing him then course he isnt going to put up much of a fight. JB's straightline speed in brail was crap and barrichello was quite a bit faster so yes, jense did do a good job to hold him back for so long!

Agreed but defensive driving is a very important skill to learn and it is a skill that Jenson has not fully learnt. I agree that there is often no sense in continually blocking a much faster driver as it slows both drivers down, especially when the faster driver is certain to get past in the pits, but there are other times when it is very important to keep your position. Ayrton Senna was a master of defensive driving, like so many other arts...

Imola as you already acknowledge and Montreal are the only two I can think of this season.

Michael wasn't exactly right up his rear, but he was catching Button up significantly. Button lost concentration and hit the wall. You're right though, it's not alot, but it's a weakness nonetheless.

I disagree. Imola was 1 example and no-one can think of any other decent examples in his career. People look for any possible way of having a dig at JB - and yet can very rarely back it up

Button just made a tiny error that led to him hitting the wall! At least he hit a wall that is easier to hit than alonso! So you can argue FA had a worse crash as he hit the harder wall to crash into! :D

RB has more achievements and experience

JB has more potenza for future and he`s younger

... so we have ~10 years difference, and as for JB it will be same "home" team in 2006 (as McL for KR) and RB go to new team, like JPM ...

i think in 2006 JB will be better than RB, maybe ~11 pts gap in the end of the season (my bet for JB).

Neither is an example of poor defensive driving. At Canada he made a mistake and hit the wall when Michael was not pressuring him and, as I explained, there was no point in Jenson blocking Michael at Imola as he was certain to get past in the pit stops anyway and to block would be to risk loosing a certain (it would have been but for the disqualification) podium finish.

He is however not good at defensive driving and this must be said.
