Planetf1 - Winners And Losers

You don't have to guess who was the big winner in Brazil. However apart from Fernando Alonso winning something or other, McLaren and Ferrari both made significant moves. Unlike BMW-Williams who managed the unlikely feat of having two cars effectively out before the first turn...

Star of the Race

Fernando Alonso, Renault, 3rd

Juan Montoya may have won against Kimi Raikkonen in a straight fight at Interlagos, but he had the emotional impetus of 6000 Colombians waving at him from the stands. He also had nothing at stake.

Alonso withstood a lot of emotional pressure and delivered a good race performance, even if he did mess up his braking on the re-start. A worthy successor to the king of F1.

Overtaking Move Of The Race

Lap 1, Michael Schumacher on Giancarlo Fisichella

Kimi Raikkonen took advantage of a first lap tussle to get past Fisichella, but Michael Schumacher cheekily nipped past as well into Turn 12. Opportunistic brilliance.

Winners

Juan Montoya, McLaren, Winner

Montoya was looking lean at Interlagos and his driving was mean in the race. Unlike Raikkonen his head wasn't propped against the side of the c##kpit in the latter stages of the grand prix.

Usually Raikkonen puts in some stellar laps before his pit-stop and emerges in front of Montoya. Today he was never running close enough to the Colombian to make his fast laps count.

For the McLaren team, it's very good news, because it means that if the Finn were to go to Ferrari (as it's rumoured he might) then they have a driver capable of delivering World Championship winning performances.

Kimi Raikkonen, Mclaren, 2nd

Raikkonen lost this race in Qualifying. He should have been in front of Montoya on the opening lap and instead he was behind. Still, the first 1-2 for McLaren since 2000 isn't too shoddy, especially when it takes them in front of Renault in the one Championship they can win.

Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 4th

Ferrari promised a step forward in Brazil and Schumi delivered the result. His 4th place combined with Barrichello's 6th means that the team have guaranteed their 3rd place in the Constructors' Championship. Toyota won't beat them now. A typically industrious opening lap from Schumi got him into 4th place and even though Fisi nicked it back, he didn't have it for long.

Giancarlo Fisichella, Renault, 5th

Fisi's drive kept Renault in contention for the Constructors' title. Pat Symmonds will have been glad to see him on the road at the end of the race. Unlike Spa.

Rubens Barrichello, Ferrari, 6th

For a man who's had 10 retirements from his home GP (and whose team gave him the wrong tyre pressures for Qualifying) 6th place from 9th on the grid wasn't too bad.

Jenson Button, BAR-Honda, 7th

He clearly had a lumbering old vehicle today, but it's an 8th successive points finish for JB which isn't at all shabby.

Ralf Schumacher, Toyota, 8th

Ralf soldiered on with an under-performing car and gradually wore down Christian Klien. It took him six laps to reduce Jenson Button's lead over him from 1.9 seconds to 0.8

they should give Rosberg the drive for Japan and China.

Agreed. Jungle boy is a liability. But then he was a liability at Jaguar as well, so it's not as if we didn't know already.

Oh well, might as well put my own thoughts into this thread as dont see other threads.

WINNERS:

1. Fernando Alonso -- Not perfect race, but one which he finished third as was the minimum acceptable position barring any problems with car. Secured WDC and star of the year i think, but race one not as i am sure neither would have planet-F1 if he had not secured title with it.

2. JPM -- Well done and won the race, managed to keep Kimi behind as should have as Alonso was clear third. Altough i wonder what had happened if Alonso had DNF'd 1-2 laps before end?

3. MS -- superb drive beating Fisichella and also securing Ferrari third place in WCC as well i think. Nice pass of Fisi altough Fisi was able to regain it at restart behind him, but better race strategy placed Schumacher 4th. I would say Star of the race.

Losers:

1. KR -- now its officially over for him, nothing to do now. Also to lose to teammate as little salt on the wound.

2. Bar -- I do not know what they did, but they obviously did not do it right. Both drivers had problems with cars, without them they would have had both cars on points maybe.

3. Toyota -- Third place is slipping from their reach, if not gone totally already. Trulli was too weak in race imo and Ralf too weak in Qualify. They make great tag team -- Trulli to qualify and Ralf to race from that position, but alas its not possible :P

At this stage he's as much a liability as Webber. I seem to recall the Brazil 2004 race having the exact same outcome for Webber (a crash with his teammate) as this year. Not saying whose fault it is. The outcome is the same though.

Quite!

JPM is driver of the day in my book although I

I have said this before and I will say it again. Renault and BAR have made radical developments to their cars but yet alas, one Ferrari beat both of them. And who knows, if Ferrari were developing their current car they could have been right up their challenging for the podium. I was disappointed though to see Renault's changes never paid of because they were just light on fuel. I don't know what happened to Fisi though. Everyone would have thought he could have had 4th place secured. More brilliance from 7 times world champion Michael Schumacher and his teamate for an incredible drive yesterday.

Yes, they should, however, apparently nick could be back for one, if not both of them, unless, of course, he happens to trip over a pebble and fall down a mountain or something

Haha, don't go there. Next thing you'll get all the JPM fans on your as* about his "holiday" lol. I can't see Nick coming back for Williams unless they are very very desperate. Something strange is afoot at Williams. Nick won't be involved in anymore tests unless BMW need to do some engine work. While Pizzonia likes to crash out a lot, when he keeps it together he can score points. This is a risk I think Williams are prepared to take. Nico has little F1 running time under his belt. Unless they pull a cat out of the hat and have signed Davidson or someone else, I'd expect to see Pizzonia in the car for the last 2 races. This however all means nothing, if quick Nick should appear in the seat hehe.

pizzonia rarely "keeps it together". The best chance for williams to score points is in the form of nick heidfeld. Obviously, they don't care about him anymore, not that they ever did in the first place, I mean for gods sake, nick vs pizzonia... everyone can see the outcome of the tests before they even happen. It was only ever Mario and BMW who wanted nick for Williams and I don't think Frank could have cared less about him. I hope they have the Pizzonia and Webber combination next season and lose... badly.

History has shown that Pizzonia plus Webber is a bad combination to have. Nico and Mark might be better, Nick and Mark might be better still but Nick and Nico might be the best yet.

Pizzonia + Webber = Williams lose, badly :D

I can't believe I actually agree with the entirety of one of your posts bajo - first and last time for everything eh ;) Nick and Nico should be at BMW together, an all German line up for an all German team. Nico can learn from Nick's experience and get a drive in a (hopefully) decent works team.

oh how I would laugh if Pizzonia and Webber were team "mates":clap3:

Webber would object and Pizzonia is unlikely to be chosen anyway

I think the biggest losers were Williams, their car had pace, so obviously fueled up and yet they didn't compete more than a few 100m before being knocked out of the race.

Maybe if the Williams's were fueled up for the rest of the 2005 season, I would say they had pace, but they were very poor in Qualifying :)

Forgive me if I am wrong but there are no points in qualifying.

Williams race pace was very strong and that was shown by Webber, who could go out with a damaged car on low revs and beat the BAR on time.

Jenson may end up looking very foolish next year, he made a wrong decision in trying to back out of the contract, even as a fan I can admit that.

Winners

.....

Losers and sore losers

Antonio Pizzonia, BMW-Williams, DNF

Mark Webber, BMW-Williams, Didn't-Really-Finish

David Coulthard, Red Bull, DNF

Tiago Montiero, Jordan, DNF

Ron Dennis, Mclaren, HJSW (Has Just Started Whining)

Kudos to the sore loser, who could not keep his glob shut, and has started laying blame to everyone but himself. Sour grapes taste indeed sourly in this man
