British American Tobacco today confirms that it has agreed the sale of its 55 per cent stake in B.A.R Honda to Honda Motor Co. Ltd. The sale is expected to take effect by 31 December 2005.

Japanese car manufacturer Honda revealed today that it will go it alone in Formula One from next year after acquiring a 100 percent stake in the BAR Honda team.

Honda announced its buyout of founding owner British American Tobacco's (BAT) 55 percent majority share ahead of this weekend's home Grand Prix at Suzuka, Honda's 100th race with BAR.

Honda also said it would rename the new team in agreement with future sponsors. "Basically it will be 100 percent Honda from 2006," Oshima said. "We will complete the buyout by the end of the year. We have a highly motivated team and we expect to be much stronger."

He added: "The name will be Honda something-or-other but we will have to talk with the sponsors before making that decision."

Any guesses as to what the team name will be? Call me Mr. Obvious, but I think it'll be Honda Racing or something along those lines.

Well, if you know Honda's UK image, I would guess at: Honda Racing in association with Stenna Stair Lifts.

slightly off topic, i only saw 1 honda in all my time in france last month. an old 95 model prelude. do honda even sell cars in france?

In the UK Honda is seen as a car for old or retired folk; worthy but dull. It is changing a bit these days, what with the TypeR variants. I drive an Accord Coupe myself; make of that what you will!

Honda's are popular with oldies simply because they are incredibly reliable and go on for years!

Great news, though I hope they keeep the BAR livery and name because the merchandise is soo cool! LOL!

Maybe now they will win a WCC and WDC!

Well, Honda traditionally race in white but the livery will depend on the sponsor. BAT have stated that they will be the title sponsor for 2006 and then pull out of F1 altogether, unlike Phillip Morris.

whats the point! If i get it next year it will be old and not up to date! LOL! I want it now and that means i shall get it now, after all when i want somthing i usually get it! indeed. i got one at spa, it was 130 euros i think. was well worth it though since it rained! i love the colours. the pit crew polo shirt is quite cool too, especially the chicks one.

wow cool! Hope all with the move goes succesfully! Im also pretty good today, i also found out i got the highest mark out of all the law groups in a test we did tuesday last week and it was really really difficult so im happy!
