Takuma Sato expects to be on the 2006 grid whether it be with the new un-named Honda-backed team or an existing one.

Japan is up in arms over Sato's exclusion from Honda's factory line-up next season and the BAR driver has subsequently been linked to the manufacturer's "junior" alongside Anthony Davidson.

"The only thing I can say is that Honda had a press conference on Tuesday in Tokyo where they (said they will) supply an engine," Sato told a press conference at Suzuka.

"Obviously I've had an offer.

"After Brazil, a lot of things have happened so quickly and I'm obviously very excited about this offer and I have more options for next year.

"I am expecting to race in 2006, whether with a new team or an existing team and I really want to be racing next year."

Honda Racing boss Yasuhiro Wada, who was also at the press conference, would not be drawn on the identity of the mystery new team, but confirmed again that it had the backing of his company.

"I wish I could tell more but this is an independent team already doing some racing activities and they are keen to enter Formula 1," said Wada.

"We agree with what they are aiming for and their objectives we have finally decided to do the full support, maybe not just engine supply but on top of that the technical assistance."

"I think we will have to wait for the team to announce," he added.

"Our part is already said, I think they are finalising all the details so it is hopefully going to be happening soon."

Please go to Arrows Sato, please go to Arrows..... come Melbourne 2006 and he arrives at the paddock only to find out that he was sabotaged by old team BAR Honda into signing an expired contract to drive as a no.1 driver for an expired team......

i think it's great. if it wasn't for sato this new team would likely not even have a chance of entering f1. whatever your opinion of him as an individual driver, it's impressive the resources that are assembling behind him to keep him in f1. this way another driver will also have a chance. maybe even davidson...

I disagree. F1 needs both, whats the point of having qualitiy drivers and 3 teams. I think F1 needs more cars and i welcome the new team.

Look at Indy this year... some quality drivers there... (well... two) and to be fair much as many think ill of that race because of the stupid tyre issues, look at the RACE itself and not the politics around it and Schumacher and Barrichello raced each other well, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a GOOD race.

I liked the old days of 22,24 or 26 car grids and would welcome more of those days.

the same would happen for Button at Silverstone, Schumacher at Hockenheim, Villeneuve at Montreal, Webber at Albert Park....

Doesn't necessarily mean he's good but he does have something to grab the fans support. I believe there has been a similar discussion about Button and teams fighting for him despite his career stats... and I would put this in the same category.

After Suzuka, he needs to be banned from F1, forget about getting another drive
