Do you remenber that second place in the Monaco GP under wet conditions. Senna was chasing Prost and would have passed him when the race was arguably stopped, for me it was a definite cornerstone and a highlight in his career.

Senna was awesome throughout his career, but in my mind (okay, I have only watched F1 since mid 1991) 1993 showed his brilliance. the McLaren Cosworth, not the best car that season, partnered by Michael Andretti. Senna managed that fantastic win at Donnington and out performed his car all season. It is a shame he died so early, I would have liked to see him have many season long battles with Schumacher.

Senna was phenomenal at Monaco. As you rightly state, he should have won in 1984 in his Toleman! As it is he was classified second. In 1985 he had an engine failure after qualifying on pole. In 1986 he was third. He won in 1987 and was absolutely blisteringly quick in 1988. He was on pole by 1.427 seconds from team-mate Alain Prost after a mystical experience he had had in qualifying, where he describes how he was subconsciously driving the car, and how the whole circuit was a tunnel

Ironically, the Senna Bashers (who im quite sure are all younger than 15), probably didn't see him at any stage of his reletively short but phenominal career.

These same bashers think Schumacher is the greatest ever... how sad! (Although this is understandable since Schumacher, and only recently Alonso have won every championship in their lifetime thus far).

And he would have won 1984 had the race not been stopped early because of heavy rain, He had closed up to Prost and was moments away from passing him when the race was stopped in Suspicious circumstances.

1988 He was in a race of his own in the lead when he crashed after loosing concentration from been bored.

He only had the best car between '88 and '91*. In the other years, his car was quite clearly not the best.

I believe 1991 was a bit similar to 2005. In '91 I think McLaren had the best car until about just before mid season, then Williams was the best car with Mansell at the helm and racked up a few wins, but was unreliable. It's abit similar to this year in that Alonso had the best car for 3 races then just raced consistently to beat the faster, but unreliable McLaren.
