Now That

Only weeks before the first female racer in many years will try her hand at the wheel of a Formula One contender, British American Racing driver Jenson Button has given his chauvinist opinion as to why females will never make it in the pinnacle of Motorsports, one reason being that they have breasts!

In an interview with FHM, Button was quite forward when it came to expressing his views, that in reality haven

may be a bit sexist but also quite humurous! and he has a point - mechanics would be embarrassed strapping her in, you have to really get into the crotch when doing it (and flatten the boobs)

Embarrassed? I highly doubt it. The drivers, mechanics, everyone in the environment are professionals. Such thoughts wouldn

Considering the magazine it is, it is more than likely a joke and he more than likely said more than that, but they picked out the worst bits to make a story...the media put there spin on things again! :clap3:

Although some of it is scarily quite true - one week a month a lot of women would be crashing into other drivers, "what does he think he is doing...idiot...trying to overtake ME...still trying..thats it...no one gets past ME, not NOW!!!!!!!" *BANG*

Jenson Button once again shows his class as a complete idiot.

I'd love to see him chat to the lady that is testing for Minardi.

Seriously Jenson, stop behaving like a hormone-raging pubescent boy and think about what you have said for a bit.

As for the once a month thing and the overtaking comment, I think there are alot of drivers in F1 who crash just fine without any female related bodily functions.

On the whole, this comment does nothing to dispel the idea that some F1 drivers are chauvanistic pigs who need to seriously think before they open their mouths

Joke...man...joke.

Even as a WOMAN I can see that it is a joke...man...complain when Jenson sticks to the company lines...complain when he doesn't.

Can some people ever be pleased?

As for making drivers have no personality - great idea - sit back and watch everyone complain then

As it's in an interview for FHM, he said exactly what was expected of him............all lads together, having a larf (sic), not one serious word in the entire article (my guess, not having read it).

It would have been wise not to do the interview, in retrospect.

Agree with you, Kay.

If Jenson wants to tell a joke he should just mention his no. of Formula 1 race wins

I agree - I find, as a male, his language and thoughts very offensive, I can imagine how most women would feel

LMAO

Wait a second... you are having a go at the guy for imagining what racing will be like for a girl and then you say

"I can imagine how most women would feel"

Double standards?

If it was a joke then it was a stupid one at that; no matter the publication, audience, or forum. What a tool.

The comments were made to a lads' magazine, obviously just for humour and obviously he doesnt seriously believe women dont drive in motorsport. Phoenix07 and USAf1 - you seriously need to get over yourselves and find a sense of humour

Political correctness will be the death of us all, as it inexorably continues to erode freedom of speech. What I do find amusing is that members of this forum are happy to hurl insults and abuse at each other, but then come over all righteous and offended when a figure in the public eye makes a humourous statement. Hypocrites.

That's good stuff! If I need to find a sense of humor, then so do many many other members here. Just a general statement there...

What Button said was juvenile, immature & sophomoric, along the lines of Beavis & Butt-head. Heh heh, chicks w/big boobs can't fit in cars, and yeah guys will get off copping a feel whilst strapping them in! I've never met a member of an F1 crew, but my guess is that they consider themselves professionals, and handle themselves accordingly, in-line with other professionals like doctors. I doubt that OB-GYNs get their rocks off during exams, but an F1 crew would? If that was humor, than it was a poor display of it. Just my 2

I'll assume that you're not referring to me, as my sporadic posts haven't taken aim at any individual member personally, nor have I hurled insults at, nor abused another forum member.

It seems that many people poke fun - or alternately raise the "PC flag" - when it bests suits them. I hardly see a level playing field here - or anywhere - in that sense. :eusa_think:

You're quite safe, USAF1, I'm not taking potshots at you. I just get p**sed off by (taking your cue) people using flags of convenience when it suits them. I am non PC and don't much care who knows it.

I can see the jokingness in it, but can also understand why some can see a problem with it aswell, its pretty borderline both ways really.
