RED BULL TARGETING WINS IN '08

ITV

Red Bull boss Christian Horner expects the appointment of Adrian Newey as technical director will be the catalyst for the team to join the ranks of grand prix winners.

The Milton Keynes-based squad landed a major coup this week by luring Newey away from McLaren and signing him to a long-term contract beginning next February.

Horner is particularly excited by the fact that his lead driver David Coulthard will be reunited with Newey.

It's very feasible (Red Bull winning) with Newey on board. As for DC, if he is still competitive and motivated, then he should still be in F1.

Why not in 2007  They will get a Newey designed car with Ferrari engines and DC on board (hopefully Klien aswell). So to me a Team like that can win atleast one race. Its good that they not saying things like in 2006 we will win races and unrealistic claims like BAR and Nick Fry do I mean Nick hasnt even got the car designed and tested yet!!

Red Bull is building their dream team. They will get a good car by 2007 and attract a top driver (or a driver from their development program will become a top driver) for 2008 DC will move asside and they will start winning races.

Red Bull needs David Couthard like Turtles need water. DC is the only member of the team who knows how to win and his performances this season have been amazing. David Couthard got 24 points compared to Christian Klien's 9 points. DC would have got alot more points as he was going to get a 4th in Monaco until MS ran into the back of him and he was set for some more points in China but unfortantly he was badly effected by the safety car.

That may have been the case this season and may continue in 2006 but DC can not stay driving for the team forever. Don't get me wrong, i think DC is very good for Red Bull's requirements and he may well be their first race winner (in 2007 maybe). I just don't think he is in Red Bulls long term driver picture (he will move into a management position once his driving work is done). Even if DC is still driving relativly well by the end of 2007 I think Red Bull will have a good enough car and team to attract a top driver (this is complete long shot but its not that hard for me to imagine Valintino Rossi driving a Red Bull).

I am 90% cetain that DC will be the first one to win in a Red Bull, after all he nearly got a podium this year in the European GP and if it wasnt for that drive through penalty for going 0.5km to fast in the pitlane he would have got 3rd, and in a car which was not overally competitive that is a major achievement.

Take DC's current form (and any speculation about future form) out of the picture and do you think that Red Bull have DC in mind for their long term plans, as a driver?

Indeed. DC also led a race for RBR!

Yes. I think it is very possible that DC will be driving for Red Bull in 2008. I dont think age should be a factor in F1, if DC is still driving well in 2007 then Red Bull will resign him.

It is important for me to point out that although I dont think DC is the fastest driver on the grid he is a classy driver and has one of the most smooth driving styles in F1 today. Red Bull are shooting for the stars, they want to be World Champions and i just dont think that DC is the guy that Red Bull have in mind. What you must remeber is that Red Bull is not a energy drink company its a marketing company, sure they make a good drink but the reason for Red Bull's (the company) sucess has not been through the flavor of their drinks or the effect that they have on onces body. Red Bull has become one of the most sucessful soft drink companies in the world through their marketing genious. I dont see why they would approach F1 any differently, Red Bull F1 has allways been about marketing and selling more cans. I belive that marketing will continue to be the driving force behind Red Bull F1's major decisions in the future (driver decisions included).

I think DC has another 2 years in F1 with RBR. They will obviously be looking for young drivers to fit in with their corporate image. But I won't bet on DC being out of F1 in 2008.

It really just depends on his performances. Hill was still going at 39, and MS will be 38 I believe next year. So if DC continues as he is (and he is still 1 of the fittest drivers) then he should still be there. I very much hope so anyway!

If they didn't waste money buying a new reject team they could be aiming for 2007 instead!

It is a very wise investment in my opinion. In afew years when teams are allowed to buy cars from one another it will be a huge advantage because of all the extra testing they can do.
