Honda well prepared for opening GP in Bahrain

Having seen its two RA006 cars cover more than 4600kms and set the pace among the V8 runners during four days of testing in Bahrain, the Honda Racing F1 Team was encouraged by its achievements in the Middle East.

"It was good to be in Bahrain for our first test at this circuit, not only because it is the venue for the first Grand Prix of the year, but also because the circuit layout is technically very good to test the car and of course the weather is much warmer than in Europe! We have learnt a great deal about the car and the tyres this week to be really prepared for the first race of 2006," reported Mark Ellis, Chief Engineer Vehicle Performance.

Shuhei Nakamoto, Engineering Director at Honda Racing Development, was equally encouraged by the performance and reliability displayed by the latest specification of Honda RA806E V8 engine. He said: "The Bahrain circuit is quite hard on the engine and we have had a couple of problems as we seek to run the engines for longer at higher revs. On the other hand, two engines have run over 1000kms without any problems, so we are heading in the right direction. We have more improvements to come for next week in Barcelona."

Agreed! Try the Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford near Yeovil, Somerset. I've been twice and enjoyed it thoroughly each time. They have a wonderful collection from all vintages and of all types. One hall is known as the Red Collection since all the cars have been painted red, must have been a sale on red paint at ASDA. I'm looking at the catalogue now! This museum is really worth a trip!! they even have a restoration shop there. Plan to spend a few hours at least!

More difficulties for new Ferrari

20 February 2006

Ferrari continued testing today at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. It was another tough day for the new car which has struggled to find good reliability. Michael Schumacher was only able to complete 49 laps while team mate Felipe Massa racked up 124 in the F2004.

The day's programme focused on set-up and tyre testing for Michael and electronics and tyre work for Felipe. The day was not without technical problems for Michael, who only managed to complete 49 laps, the quickest in a time of 1m31.390s. As for Felipe, he covered 124 laps, setting a best time of 1m30.410s.

Testing continues at this circuit tomorrow when once again, Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa will be on track.

The problems concerned gearbox and electronics.....I am still trying to figure out why Ferrari is still bothering to waste time testing with a v10 F2004!?!?!?

Is anyone starting to think that maybe Ferrari are heading for a worst year then last year. There are a bunch of teams that suddenly are breathing down their neck. I don't know if they have the luxury of taking their time to get it right. It is only testing, but really this isn't looking so good for them.
