Did Martin Brundle and James (Yawn) Allen not discuss this during an F1 race last year? The problem with having a racing car as the safety car, is that they would need their own pit crew and mechanics (although in F1 terms this would be tiny and insignificant in cost terms) However the car also carrys safety equiptment and should be capable of taking passengers. Not just the driver - Remember there is not just the 'safety car' but also the 'medical car'.

I think the Merc is sufficient for the job!

it's fine as is, in fact it'll no doubt be faster this year so it's more than adequate.

and add the fact that the F1 cars themselves will be slower by around 2 seconds if I am right so it kinda bealances i think

A Clio V6 wouldnt be that far behind on a twisty circuit, and you'd have mor fun in the bargain. Probably wont be an automatic either.

yep lmao in the US GP straight the bugatti will be at turn 1 while the rest are on the last backing corner lol.
