I thought he did, at one of his pit stops. I also remember that there was some radio communication problem as Sato also entered the pits and had to drive through as the team was attending to Ide.

Even without the penalty he was over a second a lap slower. Quite woeful, but he'll make a nice lapdog for Button if Honda can make a winning car.

Renault have stuffed up Fisi's race about 10 times since the start of last year so I wouldnt complain if I were you! Try and accept that Fisi deserved it and was most people's driver of the day

Well done to both Renaults and Button. I was really impressed by Button today, he drove an excellent and consistent race. Three other drivers who impressed me were Massa, Heidfeld, and Sato. Massa really impressed me even more yesterday and thoroughly deserved to beat Michael. I was afraid at the end that the team would make a switch but I'm glad they didn't.

Heidfeld drove brilliantly all race and would have thoroughly deserved his points, but that's how the cookie crumbles as Jacques was also in a position to score in Bahrain prior to his own engine going bang. As for Sato, he did really well, and has been going well all season. He's keeping his nose clean and is running as quickly as the car can allow him. He was racing really well yesterday and managed to keep ahead of STR and Midland cars for a while.

As for JV, he had a good clean race, but nothing spectacular. Would have scored even without Nick retiring, but Nick had his measure, which surprised me as JV had been quicker all weekend prior to the race. JV will now go into Melbourne with his engine going into its second race, so as you'd expect I'm a little worried about how that may go.

Ralf did a competent job but I've been massively unimpressed by Trulli and Rubens. Rubens is just slow for whatever reason, but my guess is that noone will criticise as they did with JV last year. Trulli really needs to go up to JV and ask him for some tips on defensive driving as Michael and Jacques passed him too easily.

Both Williams' looked very strong, but I half expected Nico's engine to go as he was charging hard in Bahrain whilst Webber was unlucky.

I gave driver of the day to Alonso... 7th-2nd, fastest lap & was it not for Renault obviously telling him to chill at the end could have caught Fissi and possibly challenged him.

I remember it well:

Both Jenson and Alonso crashed into a wall and JPM was rightly given what was his 3rd DSQ in North America, this time for Leaving the pit lane under the red light, a bad error, I must say. I recently watched the 2005 season review DVD and JPM also went off slightly after a pit stop at Canada 05 and after another he tried to muscle his way past another driver, DC if I remember correctly. Not a good race for JPM. It was however a good race for his team-mate, the iceman.
