Phil Hill? Dan Gurney?

Not exactly an amazing heritage. Generally, americans arent leaders in motorsport talent. Even in their own series' like IRL, champcar, its normally foreigners winning, like Wheldon, Montoya, Zanardi, Villeneuve, Mansell! 'Jeff Gordon' I hear you cry, yea but Jeff Gordon competes against other americans in fat cars. Its not really an argument I want to get into anyway, I was just making a little joke!

You don't know who AJ Foyt is?!?!?!?Really?!?!?

He had been one of the greatest drivers in the history of the Indycar Championship..his nephew AJ Foyt IV is now racing in NASCAR,after having contested two unsuccesful Indycar seasons

Oh I forgot to say that AJ Foyt career in Indycar\Usac started back in 1957 while his last race was the Indy 500 of 1993!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's mostly impressive is the fact that when AJ lined up for his first Indycar race,Juan Manuel Fangio was still the greatest F.1 driver...and when he tried to qualify for his last one Michael Schumacher was already a rising star in F.1

In 1998 DC simply wasnt as fast as Hakkinen, you need to accept that.
He was the equivalent to what Frentzen was in '97. DC only won 1 race in the best car (by some margin to the next best being the Ferrari) all year. DC had his chance, and failed ot take it, that's the long and short of it.
Even in their own series' like IRL, champcar, its normally foreigners winning, like Wheldon, Montoya, Zanardi, Villeneuve, Mansell!

All those except for Wheldon won when the American series was strongly rivalling F1. It was a united series with a strong depth of drivers. That was Indycar or CART, not IRL.

True, but every1 agreed ( team owners, drivers, even some FIA delegates ) that the accident was a racing accident which shouldn't end up as drive through penalty (or it was 10sec??)!

I agree with you...but as each person is different, there's also different things that some drivers maybe need in order to get the results...Maybe JP needs a little more support.

Does anyone know of a site that has race data...lap times

www.f1matrix.it :)

So this Foyt chappie, he never made it to F1, or he just knew he'd be crap there. So he must have been about a hundred and five in 1993, F1 drivers tend to retire at 40 at most. Even that Andretti chappie raced till he was 50 something right.

American motorsport :rolleyes2: salivating over a brickyard

Yeah, American motorsport is a kind of an oxymoron... I mean - even watching F1 here is virtually impossible (the sheer amount of commercials makes actually following the race a torture). And really, there just hasn't been any American F1 drivers for a while now (except for that Speed guy, who's not exactly amazing) if ever.

Don't you guys think Montoya would've been better off just staying at BMW, Ron Dennis has actually ****ed up his career now and no one wants Montoya. He's got nowhere to go, latest the supposely interest of Renault but Briatore is focussing on Hekki for Alonso's vacant seat. Red Bull looks his best option but he's gonna take a big cut, BMW looks stronger by the day look what it's done to the resurgent career of JV. Sometimes looking for better opportunity can actually really come back to bite you in the butt!
