F1 Quiz

Seamless shift gearboxes are banned, the rules state there has to be a shifting gap. The seamless shift gearbox is really a bit of a cop out, as it is technically not seamless. The trick is to make the shifting quicker.

Exactly

There is still a gap, however bajo they have 6/7 ratios, they are not infinitely variable like CVTs. They are commonly referred to as seamless gearboxes though, if you do a quick google search of <team name> seamless gearbox you'll see.

Here is an interesting link although I am not sure if the F1 boxes are based on a similar concept.

Earliest memory of this was BAR (with Ferrari threatening to protest). I'll google it and see if I'm correct. Though I think the key will be the word 'tested'.... :eusa_think:

Good guess Mike!

Williams developed the first

Me! Me! Me! I know this one!

It was Fisi (his maiden pole, I think) he later during the race touched Alesi's car and both were out of the race.

The 2 biggest that come to mind are these:

Jerez 97

Australia 98 (and probably at over times in 98 as well)

I know there are more, but infortunately my memory isn't that good

 cynical

I doubt they used them in 2006, their car was not competitive enough for them to need team orders

I thought they were given the same order during all 2006 season: "Crash and burn!"
