Have you checked with the neighbours? My cat used to go missing for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. Living at someone else's house.

Good point. Jem, you don't have any Vietnamese or Korean neighbors, do you?

I knew some pussy like that.

nice one Steve.

cav, i have read a book(micheal cripton:- the state of fear(some such title)) and that book kind off disses GW and how charts are manipulated.(which is also being thought in my stats class) In UK i was there for 2 years and both years it got colder(worst snow in 45 years, next worst in more than that) now Ben tells us that it is worse, so in my practical experiecnce i have also yet to see it getting warm. Theories exist and theories will fall. most popular theories fall over time

It's a fact that global temperatures have been rising and falling for thousands of years. What isn't so easy to discern is if humans are causing, or at the very least, advancing a current warming trend. The difficulty is that we only have reliable records of the weather for about 100-200 years. Not enough to make a very conclusive argument. In the 70's there was a similar theory of global cooling making the scientific circles complete with people predicting a new ice age by 2025 or somesuch.

I see us entering a period of global warming but I don't agree that humans are causing it or helping it along. Nor do I agree that the outcome will be any more dire than they predicted thirty years ago about global cooling. It seems global warming is being used to extort money from corporations and nations (Kyoto Treaty anyone? You know, the treaty that says a country that exceeds a level of global warming gasses must pay money to a developing country? Anyone see an agenda in that?)

In the end, I don't mind reducing emissions and encouraging corporations to operate greener. Only a fool would be against that, but I object to global warming being used as a stick to bang money from people and nations.

Its all relative. In the interviews he gave while in Australia he seemed extremely intelligent and cared alot about the planet which i think are good qualities. Our current PM only has 1 of those attributes and your current President has neither.

yeah, and John Edward cares about poor people and that is why he has a $3 million house with 28 rooms. I don't know about politicians in OZ, but every politician I have ever seen, regardless of nationality, is so full of sh1te, I'm amazed anyone can stay around them long enough for the stench. I don't trust any politician from this country, everyone is out for his personal gain.

BOT, I have cousins in Florida who have never seen/touched snow their entire lives. They think 65*F is cold. I loved snow when I was a kid, but lately have gotten really sick of it. I had to drive to the Carolinas for five hours last week in the snow/sleet and even with a winter-equipped car designed for floggin Bavarian mountains (VW passat) and that wasn't fun. It's the other drivers who haven't enough sense to slow and then you have the opposite who come in and drive 10 miles per hour (17 kph) on a highway.

cav, i have read a book(micheal cripton:- the state of fear(some such title)) and that book kind off disses GW and how charts are manipulated.

You are willing to accept a single account from a work of fiction over everything else? I have said this before, you will read a work of pulp fiction or watch an episode of south park and form a view. Which means it will be often be based on hyperbole or just simply false information. I read State of Fear too, a while back, I was also intrigued by it. The global warming part is the only intriguing one actually, as a work of fiction it is quite woeful. The book should raise questions in your mind, you sohuldn't accept everything it says blindly as you have. If you want to see some detailed criticism of the book (that book has been used in countless examples of bad science), look here and here. The scientific community is virtually unanimous about gloabl warming, even more now than when when Staet of Fear was written. I don't preetnd to know much about the subject although I have read quiet a lot abotu it of late. Try realclimate.org for example, you will be stunned by the sheer magnitude of the evidence. Before forming an opinion at least try to be informed, and read abotu what other people have done in their attempt to answer the very same question.

In UK i was there for 2 years and both years it got colder(worst snow in 45 years, next worst in more than that) now Ben tells us that it is worse
Ben tells us that on one particular day it was snowing hard in one part of England. It tells us nothing at all about climate change.
, so in my practical experiecnce i have also yet to see it getting warm.

I told you to find out the difference between weatehr and climate, I will tell you to do that again. Then perhaps you will realise how little your 'practical experience' matters. For example the global temperature has perhaps risen by about half a degree. Are you trying to tell me that you can by your 'practical experience' tell that the temperature over an year has ben higher by a fraction of a degree? And even if you could, it would still mean nothing, because it won't tell you anything about the climaet at a place 20 kilometers from where you are. Studies about global warming are done by collating huge amounts of data from all over the world. The most powerful supercomputers in the world are used to run climate models. We still understand so little about climate jsut like we still understand so little about our own brains - these are incredibly complex systems.

Theories exist and theories will fall. most popular theories fall over time
No they don't, what gave you that strange idea?
What isn't so easy to discern is if humans are causing, or at the very least, advancing a current warming trend.

There is some pretty darn good evidence. For most sceintists, thdebaet is closed and done.

I see us entering a period of global warming but I don't agree that humans are causing it or helping it along.
On what precisely do you base that observation? If you said you are not sure or not convinced, that might ake some sense, but you say it with a degree of surety that I haven't seen from people who have spent their lives working on the subject.

I don't disagree there, I doubt if the Kyoto protocol will make any difference. And in any case it is doomed, as developing countries consume more and more energy, more and more developed nations will drop out of the protocol. We need a new energy source, reducing emissions isn't going to do much, and there is only so far you can go with that.

I hope our planet isn't too ruined. My daddy is pretty worried for me because when i grow up things might be really poo for me. I'm trying to learn to not worry too much; to not take life too seriously. I might aswell enjoy the time that i do have here and not get too stressed about it all.

I hope everyone here is like that. I haven't had a good chance to get to know everyone here yet. If there's anyone here who disagrees with me too much, just be gentle with me or i might cry forever and poo lots.

In this case, I'm 100% with you Cav :D

Me too. Global warming is a serious issue which needs to be handled very quickly. Anyone who believes global warming isnt happening or isnt caused by man is deluding themselves. They are like the ostridge which sticks its head in the sand hoping that the big bad tiger will just go away (and yes i know it doesnt happen in real life).

I accept that climate change is a natural thing as the earth has gone through many stages where it has been hotter and colder than it currently is. But these changes are suppose to occur over millions of years and be so slow we dont even notice them whereas the current climate change is happening over decades instead of millenia and this is a very good indication that humans are causing this rapid climate change.
