Lewis On Top Gear This Weekend.

Recommended Posts

Jeremy mentions he will drive the reasonably priced car round the track to see how he does.

Love to see how he does. I know Webber and Mansell have posted times. and is he quicker than the Stig?

Cant wait to see it! ^_^

Im not sure if this is in the right place but Lewis is F1 related to I thought it would be alright in F1 Discussion?

Lewis will go faster than them all...

He will but not because he is a better driver. In season 8 Top Gear changed its Reasonably Priced Car and they have determaned that the new car is atleast 3 seconds a lap faster than the old one. Damon Hill, Mark Webber, Jenson Button and Nigel Mansel all drove the old Reasonably Priced Car

True, but apparently, to make it fair, all F1 drivers use the old car, so he will be driving the same one the others drove.

This will be interesting. How long before we will see that episode here in Oz?? Anyone know??

I don't know, but he will only be appearing in one part of the show so there's always Youtube.

Right you are George - I didn't even think about that :dam:

You can get full topgear episodes from www.finalgear.com

As Top Gear is public broadcasting, I'm pretty sure this isn't illegal - seeing as the Top Gear producers send advice and comments to the people who run the site I figure they don't have much of a problem with it.

Can't wait to see how Lewis does.

Oh yes torr%ents of top gear and final gear are very much illegal. FinalGear doesn't host them, but the media itself is still illegal.

Not that I'm judging you... =)

I predict he'll be slower than Mansell.

I find that quite interesting, Michael my good man. Any particular reason why, or just gut feeling? :eusa_think:

I rank 3 living drivers as the fastest in the world. Those drivers may have good and bad days, but overall their styles make them the fastest living drivers.

1) Michael Schumacher

2) Alain Prost

3) Nigel Mansell

I have seen published telemetry of all three and I can say that Nigel's is the most dynamic. With Nigel, there is not middle-ground...he's either flat on the throttle or hard on the brakes. His telemetry is all sharp cliffs and valleys that is the hallmark of an almost stupid kind of courage. He doesn't seem to realize that he's driving dangerously as well as quickly! Hamilton is perhaps one of three fastest in F1, but he doesn't have Mansell's 'stupid courage'. He'll split Button and Mansell on the board.

Therefore the Stig must be one of the fastest drivers in the world.

Mansell and the stig did very very similar times if I remember correctly? The problem is, the previous car was hammered, totally, you can lose time in that car from the sheer shock to the engine/clutch/brakes etc after been majorly hammered so many times.

TBH I am unsure if Hamilton was faster then the Stig, would they actually show it? They dont want the stig to lose face, so I would say it will be within 0.1 seconds, or the same.

So says the prophecy...

No, just familiar with the track. Even Sato is fast at Suzuka.

Plus remember guys - Mansell and 'The man they say brought pleasure to 20,000 women in a single day' both have 'Salon / Touring car' experinance, whilst the Young Hamster (hey, who'll be the Hamster that day? Hammond or Hamilton?) does not. So Mansell rules!

Having said that, Mansell was my gateway into being an F1 fan. He is a different driver from a different age! But if Hamilton attracts half as many fans to the sport as mansell did - the future is looking Rosey!

That is true, but I heard that when Mansell went on he did a lot of practice laps, which sort of negates the Stig's track advantage (since a good if not great driver like Mansell will learn a track quickly). Jenson Button on the other hand didn't seem to be trying very hard at all, so perhaps he could of gone quicker. I suspect Lewis will take the Mansell approach and do a lot of practice laps, and push as hard as possible, it's in his nature, I think. Damon Hill was just plain slow. Despite my first post in this thread I reckon Lewis will end up second on the board.

I might as well guess that he'll do a 1:44:5.

Everyone gets practice laps around the Top Gear track. The Stig, however, has had many, many more laps than just a few practice runs. While it's true that a good driver can know a track in a few laps of it, it's also true that a driver intimately familiar with a track, like Sato is with Suzuka, can often pull a tenth or two out of his arse. Sato is not faster than Button, but when the two were teammates at Honda, and they were both at Suzuka, Sato outpaced Button (in individual laps, not so much a full race distance). There's familiar and there's familiar.

I disagree about the use of the word "almost" there.

I agree, the Stig has an advantage around that track. I was just saying that Mansell did the most practice laps of anyone who has gone on the show, apparently he landed his helicopter there and spent an hour or two getting to know the track, I think Lewis will be quite similar in his approach. Button & Webber weren't bothered at all, I wonder if there's something in that...

Ah, I see what you were getting at. It still doesn't matter to my estimation of Mansell's speed. Webber's run was in the wet, so you can't really compare it (although I've heard that by using the Stig's time in similar conditions the presenters know to subtract 3 [or 4] sec. from the wet times to get a dry time....where would that place Webbo?).

As to your last, I think there is, if only attitude-wise.

When Webbo ran that time, Jeremy told him that they believe a wet time adds about four seconds to your time. To which Webbo replied something along the lines of "Nah mate. Not in that car on that track."

I trust the professional racing driver over the professional tall, ugly, angry man any day
