Putting all of the moral, ethical, etc issues aside, talking to someone the other day they made a good point re Mosley.

Just imagine he survives the vote and stays on as President. What would happen if a team/driver in the future did something to bring the sport into disrepute? It would be very hard for the FIA to pursue that on the basis on no action taken on the President for doing something which certainly has not done the sport any favours, reputation-wise.

Its clear to me that he should just fade away quietly, I bet Paul Stoddart laughed his a## off when he found out!!

Wait a minute, if you turn off the tv, you can just about hear him still laughing!!

I say Stoddart for president!, how cool would that be?

Time for a campaign.

PS, nice avatar Drib! :snigger::thbup:

Is not just about being a high profile figure, it is about being the ambassador of sport. One of his main functions is representing the sport. When somebody wants to do some sort of political appareance/business with F1, Mosley is the guy you go to. F1 talks, in a way, through him. This is not something you or I think. This is how his position is conceived. Maybe it doesn't affect you. It doesn't affect me if the Pope was found smoking crack in the Vatican. But they know that their position carries the responsability of looking morally fit, even if they don't. That is why it doesn't matter what they do, until it is made public.

It was made public. If it was a setup, tough luck for him. If I was the FIA head, and somebody would have offered me to engage in a nazi orgy (or even a regular orgy, I am that boring) I would have refused. So the setup excuse does not sustain. He was offered a bait, and he took it. People are not judging the action itself (the bait), they are judging his predisposition to take that bait.

The Bahrain authorities refused to be seen with him. Prudish people will object throughout the world. Some sponsors will not like to be associated with the slogan "Marlboro, for those moments when you need more of ze punishment". So, his image has lost respect. Personally, I didn't even feel offended by the nazi connotations of his actions, nor by his orgy (well, his naked butt ruined my digestion for a couple of days), but his work is all about image, and that is what he hurt.

If Kimi had been found doing this, I wouldn't have thought he should have left F1. But Mosley's position is different.

I totally agree with you Andr

Yeah i got ya, Russ.

I think we're arguing in two different spheres anyway really. You are, quite rightly looking at the rights and wrongs in the real world; why he should go in the grand scheme of the way corporations really work.

My argument is more to do with wishing the world could be more objective in allowing real people to make real mistakes without any of the issues of image being a reason to judge someone.

I agree that he will go. May his successor be be ready for ze punishment.

Yep. I do agree that the world should be more objective and less judgemental. My very low opinion of the human race means that I don't believe it's going to change anytime soon.

Of course, the one thing that no one has mentioned yet is the possibility that his successor could be even more barking.

Actually, I was going to mention that in one of my previous posts!

However, sanity got the better of me and logic dictates that it doesn't take a genius to be better than Mosley. Of course these words may come back to haunt me, but hey ho!

:frusty: I never imagined, not in my wildest, that might happen. Surely they've learnt their lesson :o

I think Sir JYS is right, the FIA need someone of proven business accumen, someone that deals fairly with, and works to gel the following:

The teams

The general motosport fan base (not just F1-centric)

The manufacturers

The circuit owners

Bernie's empire (it won't go away yet)

And local spanking houses :P

Good question.

A bit like having Vikki Pollard as president.

Well, he has been blessed with more than his share of happiness.
