Test programme/Remarks: The crew ran with Nick a Michelin tyre programme. This day was used for driver installation and basic set-up work.

What comes next: Test in Barcelona from January 23 to 26.

Willy Rampf, Technical Director Chassis:

"After a total of 692 kilometres with the BMW Sauber F1.06 in three days we are happy with the results we achieved. The main focus during the roll-out was to check functionality and to concentrate on reliability issues."

"On the whole, we experienced very few minor technical problems, and this allows us for the forthcoming track tests to focus mainly on set-up work, the introduction of test components and the continuation of the Michelin tyre development programme."

Jacques Villeneuve:

"The BMW Sauber F1.06 felt really good. After the first day in a new car you can tell if it will be competitive or not; this one felt fast and I think there is more potential in it than in the C24 last year. That's very positive."

"Overall, I think these three days went well. Normally with a new car you expect quite a few problems, but this test went pretty well, so I'm happy."

Nick Heidfeld

Hi everyone thanks for the welcome. Can someone help clarify what these BMW times mean??? :eusa_think:

18th Jan

Driver Time Chassis No of laps

NH: 1.12.440 Sauber C24B 68

JV: 1.13.422 BMW Sauber F1.06 92

The difference in time was put down to the old chassis...

19th Jan

Driver Time Chassis No of laps

NH: 1.12.293 Sauber C24B 117

JV: 1.12.472 BMW Sauber F1.06 76

If you compare the BMW Sauber F1.06 times for both drivers they are quiet close. But how is it that NH is faster in the Sauber C24B on the 19th, even better than his own time in the new car on the 18th???

1)fuel load

2)engine revs

3)relative track temperature

4)tyres(relative)

5)other factors{ like baggy overalls,contact lens,Age,preferential treatement }

Low fuel run!! But I am glad about the JV times! They are pretty damn good! This was his first outing in the car and he nearly matched NH's best time that he got 2 days to make. All in all Nh and JV seem pretty close to each other and the F1.06 is doing great progress! :clap3:

BUTTON LAYS DOWN A MARKER

ITV

Jenson Button put one over his new Honda Racing team-mate Rubens Barrichello, when he set the fastest time in testing at Jerez on Thursday.

It was the first time that the two have driven together as team-mates and the Englishman's lap of 1m18.795s ensured he ended the day nearly half-a-second to the good.

Barrichello however is still not entirely comfortable in the hybrid 007 chassis and is looking forward to the introduction of Honda's first complete grand prix car since 1968.

Ralf Schumacher got the better of Toyota team-mate Jarno Trulli to go third quickest.

In fact the pair were also split by Williams duo Alex Wurz and Nico Rosberg.

The Austrian has settled quickly into his new environment and out-paced Williams's future superstar after completing 77 laps running.

Thursday's testing times from Jerez

1. BUTTON Honda 1m18.795s

2. BARRICHELLO Honda 1m19.288s

3. R.SCHUMACHER Toyota 1m19.373s

4. WURZ Williams 1m20.187s

5. ROSBERG Williams 1m20.323s

6. TRULLI Toyota 1m20.333s

Ha ha ha I think its the baggy overalls!! Too much Ballast making the car light...therefore less grip!! LOL

But seriously thanks everyone for the explanation.

why is every1 obsessing about BMW! God calm down!

In JEREZ today JB topped the times again. Honda are looking in much better shape than they did this time last year that is a fact!

I still maintain that JV and NH will be very closely matched this season, and I'm loath to pick a victor.

Indeed. It does seem that, with the influx of new members and the reappearance of old ones, we have more JVians on totalf1 than is altogether proper. They
