WilliamsF1's Nico Rosberg topped the timesheets on the final day of testing at Jerez, a day when thick fog meant that track-time was seriously reduced, for safety reasons.

Just two teams - WilliamsF1 and Honda - were on duty, as the second week of testing at the second track came to an end.

"Today was the last day before we run the FW28 in Valencia, after the launch," said Sam Michael. "Although the circuit was closed this morning due to the fog, we managed to have a productive afternoon, testing various tyre options with Bridgestone to further improve our understanding of the compound and construction requirements.

"Our Bridgestone engineers have responded exceptionally well to the direction taken from the November and December tests and we are seeing the results of that already. We also verified several new mechanical components for reliability."

"We experienced no significant engine problems on the CA2006 this week," added Simon Corbyn of Cosworth. "We were able to continue with the validation of updated engine components, while we also made good progress refining engine control strategies.

"Back in Northampton, we are flat out preparing engines for the new FW28," he added. "Engineering progress and dyno test results continue to be good and we will deliver a further engine performance gain when the CA2006 is installed in the new chassis."

Sandwiched between to the two williamsF1s were the two Hondas of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button.

Having lost the morning, both drivers went out to complete comprehensive tyre programmes. The Brazilian completed 102 laps, while his English teammate completed an impressive 120 laps.

"Even though we started quite late today, we have still been able to do many laps this afternoon and have seen some good results," said Barrichello. "I hope that my input helps the team continue this development and progress further when we have the new car available next week."

With the new car set to make its track debut on Wednesday, today was the last day of testing for the 'concept' car.

"We have completed over 2700km with the concept car which has again proven to be extremely reliable," said chief test engineer, Mark Ellis. "We have been able to identify the limits of several components which will prove invaluable in ensuring our continued strong reliability."

Firstly welcome to all the newbies, great to see two more JV fans, even if it does rile those who have little to no respect for Jacques.

As for testing, JB has done a good job all through testing, but we'll see if he and Honda are the real deal when they launch their new car. Great to see Rosberg topping a test, great for the confidence. As for Jacques, absolutely thrilled he has set a time that close to Nick's after just one day. Also great to see the car running reliably. JV has given the new car a big thumbs up which is a great sign as the year is often dictated by the first few tests for a team and driver.

Cavallino, well said mate. Oh, for those who are peeved off at seeing more JV fans, deal with it. We don't complain when fans of other drivers come on here, so I don't see why some of you have to go throwing tantrums because JV fans join the forum. Also, this isn't the JV fan club, that can be found at www.jv-world.com, which is JV's official site. It's not like we've had to go recruit from that forum just to bolster our numbers...The Buttonite recruitment mission failed spectacularly, but the intent was there. Some of you seriously need to lighten up and stop prejudging people after a day or two...

The fact that in the history of Formula 1 Toyota have the same amount of Grand Prix wins as Jenson Button doesn't mean they are good.

I'm not going to throw accusations around as the core Buttonites here (Ben, Jem, Buttongod etc) are a great bunch. Sure some of them go abit over the top, but we all do once in a while. What I will not stand for however is the childish bickering which went on, and why? Because we weren't talking enough about Button apparently.

Whilst I was happy to see most of the JV fans here praised by those involved, I don't like the way they treated the new members, as if it were a bad thing to be a JV fan on here. Sure, there was alot of emphasis on BMW, but considering it was the new car and that one of the most popular drivers on this forum, and the sport as a whole, was getting his first taste of that new car, I don't know what the fuss is all about. I expect the Buttonites will be just like that when the new Honda is launched and JB is testing, to add to the many topics on he who has been 'touched by God'.

Testing at the Catalunya circuit resumes tomorrow

The F1 Championship comes back to the Spanish Grand Prix track from January 23rd to 27th. The teams will start testing for a new season plenty of changes: new regulation with V8 engines, limited aerodynamics, new agreements between teams and motorists, etc. Moreover, for the first time a Spanish driver –Fernando Alonso– will take number 1 as last year’s World Champion.

Eight teams will be testing at Catalunya. On Monday 23rd McLaren-Mercedes and BMW-Sauber will start. On Tuesday 24th Ferrari, Honda and Red Bull Racing will join them. Renault will arrive on Wednesday 25th, as well as Toyota. Toro Rosso will test only on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th.

Spectators can buy their tickets (5 euros/day) at the ticket office no. 2 (gate 2). PA3 parking is free. Spectators can access to the Main Grandstand as well as Grandstands E, F, J and K (east area – main straight); and Grandstands G, C and H (north area – stadium area). The restaurant and Circuit’s shop behind the Main Grandstand will be open. The access is free for the Circuit’s members.

There is a comprehensive offer of places –grandstand and pelouse– for spectators who want to buy tickets for the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix. There are still tickets available for most of the grandstands, especially grandstands A, M, C and J, apart from the pelouse.

Here, i only wanted more buttonites to help defend him cos he was getting soo much stick from u lot and it was unfair too. I jut get fed up when people keep going on about him having 0 wins, i dont need to be told it all the bleeding time, its repetative and irritating. who caes if he hasnt won a race, he hasnt really had a good enough chance! anyway...

I dont hate JV, nor do I particularily like him, but I respect those who support him, but whenevery topic is discussing JV its a little repetative, if Nick was discussed in as much detail it wudnt be so bad! Its also irritating when a few JVians predict him things BMW simply wont acheive in its first year! Some people need to be a bit more realistic somtimes!

BTW shaun (it is shaun init?) I wouldnt mind it if we were discussing BMW as a team and not just JV, just like i will discuss HONDA's new car and the team and say what i like/dislike and what I hope will come out of it. I was merely voicing my annoyance that its all been about JV and not NH and BMW!

JV received more than his fair share of unfair criticism here, yet we haven't gone running for back-up. If its unfair, prove them wrong. Argue your point, try to persuade them yourself, it'll be good practice for when you start law, if you're not studying it already.

I dont hate JV, nor do I particularily like him, but I respect those who support him, but whenevery topic is discussing JV its a little repetative, if Nick was discussed in as much detail it wudnt be so bad!

I know mate, you're one of the good anti-JV guys if that makes sense. I think the reason JV was being discussed in such great detail was because it was his first run with the new car. This really is the be-all and end all for JV and you wouldn't know, as a Button fan, who has 5 years pretty much guaranteed in the sport, what it's like for us as this could be the end. We hang on JV's word after the first test as moreoften than not, his indications after the first run are an indicator to how the car will fare during the season. Add that to the fact that there are alot of JV fans on here and it seems as if JV is the only thing being talked about, when in reality its just his fans discussing their drivers chances between themselves. It's all calmed down now anyways as I thought it would.

I think Mclaren will be a force later in the year, its basically gonna be a repeat of 2004 for them this year, but maybe more competative from the putset, just not enought to challenge!
