Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 Solomon Kane. I ****ing loved this film. And eye candy in James Purefoy too! Reminded me in parts of Constantine which I also liked, but the comic books were better. I watched Lady Vendetta again also. That film is moving, has some comedy moments, and some real dark ones too. I honestly think the build up and the climax of this film is quite possibly one of the most unique and most people relevant (as in I think most people in that situation would do the same and have thought about doing the same) - it really questions your baseline morals and makes you question the very fibre in your heart, mind and soul. Faced with vengeance, how would you react? I love a good horror too. So, if anyone can recommend me a decent unique worthy of watching scare filled psychological and gory horror, please do. I love Japanese film, and the Japanese horror genre are always miles more superior than the american/european remakes. For instance One Missed Call. Jap version, brilliant. Remake = awful. Autumnpuma 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 Correction: it is still funny. One of me faves. As for True Grit, isn't it more faithful to the book this time? Sorry, forgot I posted in this thread! Anyway, yeah, the new flick is more faithful to the book, but John Wayne is so Iconic American that I prefer his Rooster Cogburn. I'm not sure I want to delve into what part of my brain prefers an inferior movie because of of John Wayne. I suspect it will scare me.

LabradoRacer 2 Report post Posted March 20, 2011 Lord of War (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399295/ )is a fantastic movie about an arms dealer who doesn't have the words 'morals' and 'ethics' in his dictionary. Er, no, it's not a movie about Adnan Khashoggi. The opening sequence is amazing, and the rest of the movie too is superbly shot. Do see it, it's a hyperkinetic, entertaining ride! LabradoRacer 2 Report post Posted March 20, 2011 Useless reply but... I watched it 2 years ago and I agree it's very good ^^ (Just surprised at having watched a film before you did xD) I'd seen long back. It's just that I was reminded of the movie while checking out another movie on imdb. And yes, my ego would be very injured if you saw good movies before me. No, just kidding. I never knew of Hayao Miyazaki until you told me about him. Thanks a ton for that.

Cage swings from films such as this to derivative, noisy junk but maybe that car collection of his has something to do with it. I can't wait to see Cage's Drive Angry. It's got lotsa gore, over-the-top action, T&A, trashy dialogues, flimsy storyline, a sexy lead actress (never mind that she's a dyke). What more can one want from a movie? Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2011 TBH, I saw Lord of War on release and thought it was an awful film. Thought Cage was bland and drab, and half the time looked as if he wanted to be elsewhere. Sorry guys.
LabradoRacer 2 Report post Posted March 26, 2011 TBH, I saw Lord of War on release and thought it was an awful film. Thought Cage was bland and drab, and half the time looked as if he wanted to be elsewhere. Sorry guys. I don't know what you're sorry for. The guys you said sorry to aren't going to bite your head off for not liking a movie they liked. And, yeah, watched Solomon Kane. I found the movie passable, 6/10. No, I ain't sorry for that! The best thing about the movie was the beautiful, curvy Rachel Hurd Wood. Watched Almodovar's Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101026/ Liked it a lot, gave it 8/10. Think of it as a movie about Stockholm syndrome combined with comedy and innocence. A nice thing about the movie is how almost every character is child-like & naive. Even more, it's seemingly a world where everyone accepts everyone for what they are. Do watch it. Oh one more thing. Don't miss the scene where the lead actress is nekkid in the bathtub and a toy scuba diver tries to enter between her legs.
Persevere 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2011 Pedro Almodovar is one of the most complete filmmakers working today. He understands and attends to every detail of his films. No, that doesn't mean everything he does is a masterpiece. But the look and style of his body of work to date is terribly impressive.
Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2011 Death Note 3. Pretty good! I liked Light (Kira) from the first 2 films, this one is about the last 23 hours of L so it runs kind of concurrent to Death Note 2 . But I think L is just awesome! Paranormal Entity 2. A group of paranormal researchers go to the re-built house of serial killer John Wayne Gacy jr to investigate it and either prove or disprove existence of the supernatural. Pretty OK. A few scary jumpy parts. A bit more action than Paranormal Activity but acting skills leave a little to be desired. Apartment 1303. Jap horror. Good when nothing else to do. Don't expect too many heart-stopping moments, because there's not many! Entertaining enough when bored.
Quiet One 15 Report post Posted April 3, 2011 Watched "Senna" Just like Ayrton, I guess in the end it will be a unique experience for each one of us. For me, it was a mix of some controversial manipulation of facts (as much as I was on Senna's side in the Prost vs Senna war, I must confess that Prost's side is not sufficiently shown here), some disappointment on things that were not enough covered (moree racing! Les taking!), some very fun moments, lots and lots and lots of memories coming back (for all you younguns, do not miss Ballestre and see how much of him you recognize in Bernie), oh...I don't know. And above all: NOT ENOUGH XUXA! (She was one of the very few women that made my knees actually go weak everytime I saw her) For me it was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. And I cried. I couldn't stop the tears fro at least 30 minutes after watching the movie. Funny thing is, I didn't cry for Senna, but for myself. For all the things that happened in all these times. For Brazil and the memories of those dark times in Latin America. For the death of so many illusions I had at the time very few of which had anything to do with Senna. In any case, you must watch it. Like I said, I am sure it will be a unique experience for everyone of us. And, in the end, it is a smal window for all those that never experience his magic to understand how powerful it was and how difficult it is to transmit it right now. For all those that experienced it, probably will bring back many memories as it happened to me.

The documentary makers have apparently admitted that it is a biased documentary and not meant to be anything else, so I'll bear that in mind when I see it. Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2011 I'm A Cyborg, But It's Alright. Funny in parts, moving in others and just plain weird at times. The character of Young-gook could actually represent some women today (without revealing too much, she thinks she's a Cyborg and doesn't eat) - anorexia is a serious illness but i think Park handled it well. LabradoRacer 2 Report post Posted April 4, 2011 Just saw a Hungarian movie, Kontroll (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373981/) . Though it may appear that the movie's a slice of life about ticket checkers in the Budapest underground railway transport system, it's much more than that as said in the beginning of the movie. There's plenty of comedy combined with blackness. For example, in one scene when the clean-up guys are removing the mangled remains of a body from the tracks, they merrily discuss a recipe in detail. I laughed my a## off at that scene. Who knew Nimrod Antal, the director of the medicore Predators, was capable of such high calibre stuff? Every character is a delight to watch with his/her own quirks and eccentricities. Do watch it!

LabradoRacer 2 Report post Posted April 17, 2011 Saw 'Happiness is a warm blanket, Charlie Brown'. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1810633/ Clocking at just 45 mins, it's a real treat. Charles Schulz isn't with us, but he lives through his creations. The animation's done in his style, and it's a treat for the eyes. Of course, there's the Schulz trademark of cuteness & naivety, but what's pleasantly surprising is that it also has some elements of rough-edged/dark humour. I guess it's because Stephan Pastis, the creator of "Pearls Before Swine", co-wrote it. There are plenty of funny moments. Like the one scene where Linus, badly missing his security blanket, comforts himself with Snoopy's ear! Do see it!

About 'The American', the babe's name is Violante Placido, if my memory serves me right. Quite a dish, as I'd pointed out earlier in this thread. Or maybe in the 'beautiful girls' thread. Just thought of this Jap movie '2LDK' I saw long back. Just 2 actors in the movie, yet the movie is highly entertaining. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0362387/ Do see it, guys, it's damn good.
