JHS 1 Report post Posted January 5, 2010 So sayeth Peter "Dream a little dream" Windsor. Now that is something I'd like to see. Peter Windsor and Susan Boyle singing "I dreamed a dream". Somebody make it happen. Of course, it'd sound awful, but I bet it sounds a lot better than the normal BS that comes out of his fly-trap. He does remember he isn't actually American, doesn't he? lewisthegreat2 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2010 He does remember he isn't actually American, doesn't he? It wouldn't make it any less arrogant and stupid if he were an American. It'd almost make it worse. What gets me about Windsor is he's the same guy who called for the end of the USGP, saying Indianapolis was a "Sh#thole" and that the airports in food in the USA are awful. And he might not wrong on any of the three points, but it's still a bit odd for him to be starting a US-based team with a mission statement of being as nativist as possible and keeping drivers such as Adam Carroll off the grid to put guys who don't even qualify for Super Licenses such as Jonathan Summerton/Alexander Rossi/John Edwards/JR Hildebrand in the car. Or something like that. I really wish they'd just sell the team to someone who'd tone it down on the "our way is the best way to ever run an F1 team and is how a 21st century F1 team SHOULD and WILL be run." Considering they've never tried the experiment, it's a bit odd to brag about the results, no?
HandyNZL 1 Report post Posted January 5, 2010 Well, they got about two months to put their money where their mouths are. Everyone wants to see proof of their car, now, as in yesterday, or the day before that. But then we have no proof of McLarens car existing apart from some numbers out of a wind tunnel. Just because we haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. We, as the F1 public, have yet to see any car from any team for the 2010 season. USF1 are no different in that respect to Ferrari, Mercedes or Lotus. If they have only 35 employees...so what? Heard of sub contracting? The only thing that makes anyone doubt any of the new teams is the lack of historical references....i.e. we have seen Ferrari and McLaren put cars on the grid for race one of the F1 season for over twenty five years, so we feel pretty confident that they will infact do it again. We know they will be slow - what new (as in really new, as in not a name change) team has not been? But the sport needs the Minardi's, the Simteks etc....average people actually relate better to these sort of teams as they are less flash and more approachable (whether or not they really are is irrelevant). Maybe they toot their horn a bit, but in honesty, which team doesn't? Lets just see if they make the grid, and then the race after that.....and kick em if they are down after that if you want. lewisthegreat2 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2010 I reject your post because you're being fair, unbiased, and logical. Your post doesn't help my anti-US F1 agenda. How dare it exist.
JHS 1 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 My problem with US F1 is that they are just so nationalistic. I mean, look at Force India. They are proud to be an Indian team, but they don't constantly go on about how India is the hot-spot for F1 racing or indeed the future of the sport. They don't even hire an Indian driver in a race seat, let alone two. They hire drivers on talent. Fancy that, bit radical isn't it?! I mean, I have nothing against national teams (despite thinking they should be in something called A1GP....oh yeah, that doesn't exist. See? Nationalistic racing doesn't work) as long as they don't go OTT. US F1 have gone OTT and then some. Your ponit about the other teams "tooting" their horns, well, true, but as far as I've heard, none of them boast about whatever country they are based in/come from is the best and that every other team is making a mistake not being there. To sum it up, US F1 are deluded. There is no other word for it.
Kopite Girl 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 In that case, can McLaren now be called the same?
Quiet One 15 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 My sentiments, exactly. McLaren IS the "all around Brit team" at the moment. As Mercedes GP is "ze all around Deutsche team". USF1 is all about United States and the home of the brave blah blah blah. But I don't think they are worse than MGP or McLaren at this moment. Mostly Mclaren, as MGP has not boasted at all their all deutsche lineup...they even tried to deny it, remember? In any case, the problem with USF1 is that it just rings as non existant. If I were PW, I would ask the same treatment as the Nobel Prize Comitee gave to Obama and give USF1 the WDC on the grounds of what they might accomplish in the future? JHS 1 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 In that case, can McLaren now be called the same? In my view no. Sure, they had two British drivers but at least they can prove to be actually half decent. Mercedes GP are worse seeing as they were determined to have an all German driver line-up right from the word go, but again, Mercedes for me have justified their place in the sport and again they have two creditable drivers. They could choose any number of German drivers, many of them simply average (outside of F1), but they actually went for German drivers WITH talent.
lewisthegreat2 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 creditable drivers. Everyone can get credit in the US, so that's not really saying much. After playing Batracer, why not check out www.getkewlcredit17.co.cc, proud advertiser during SPEED's F1 coverage in the US (not even that far from a lie...US-based F1 fans must be total losers)? Credible drivers, however...one's old and mean and the other's Nico Rosberg. Hmm.

lewisthegreat2 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Better than a guy nobody has heard of (no joke here, my friend actually thought Jose Maria was a girl!) and one who currently is none-existant! Your friend knows little of the Spanish language. Even dumb Yank Eric, proud product of US public education, knows why guys are named María. Anyway, José María has a poor GP2 record, but he wasn't the least bit unimpressive in his Renault tests. He's been out of open-wheel for a while, sure, but you never know. The car will be worse than he will be. He's not my top prospect, but I'm not going to write him off yet, either. I was quick to say Kobayashi would finish P10-P15 in Brazil because the Toyota would make up for his lack of ability. The result was right, but what actually happened was far, far from the truth. Nobody, for the record, is a big term. I knew who López was and what he was racing (and how well he was doing) and have since 2006. I bet many South American fans knew, too, and I bet a lot of people who watched GP2 probably recognized the name. He's not some obscure guy from Uzbek Formula 14. For all I make fun of him and his team, they might not suck just because they're different.
lewisthegreat2 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 Team US F1 will unveil and shakedown their vehicle in the first week of February at the track designated to them by the FIA as their non-European test track, Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama. Yeehaw. Sounds like they're getting close to finished, though. Campos plan to be there for the Valencia test, and Lotus should be ready in February, as well. US F1 plan to be in Barcelona for testing as well. Not too far from seeing all of God's pretty and fast motor racing vehicles for 2010.
JHS 1 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 Fun stuff. Apparently the favourite for the new Renault seat is a certain Takuma Sato, the new team boss of Renault putting him ahead of Heidfeld! It certainly would be interesting to see Taku back in a race seat again, but I really hope Nick gets a seat somewhere too. Maybe it isn't so certain that Jaime is at STR. Isn't it a bit worrying he STILL hasn't been confirmed yet (Although STR I remember took ages to confirm Bourdais for the '09 season), but how about Nick at STR and Taku (or someone else for that matter) at Renault?
