Hm. I should've expected it. I'll jump on the grenade even though these questions are not really best suited for me.

1 What do you hope people will write on your headstone........and what would you write on your headstone (just for a laff, or you can be serious)?

I'll donate my organs to however needs them although nothing for research unless a friend explicitly explains to me what (s)he's got in mind.

Still, it's true that once dead, you don't have a say and someone might get you a headstone. Well, then, a headstone is just a small "sculpture" symbolic of a normalized "statue" so I would give my approval to anything profound and open to interpretation. For example, things like: "Beloved, forgotten", "He once thought Catherine Z. Jones was pretty", etc as well as the classics "Fvck off" and "Good riddance".

2 What was the first Formula 1 race you remember watching?

I was a very little child. Impossible to say.

3 If you could have chosen your own name, what would it have been?

In order to get Japanese nationality (which I neither have nor want), you must choose a Japanese name. During a drunken bout, friends and foes decided on "Masahiro Nonaka" and that's fine by me.

4 What is your worst sporting injury (and for those of you with slightly soiled minds *cough Andre cough* you can consider the art of lovemaking as sport)?

I have had bruises of all colors everywhere on my body and more than thrice. I also have been stitched more times than I can count, including my nut sack (one of those occasions when the doctor tells you "you are a fortunate man. One more millimeter to the left...").

I've never broken a bone, ligament, or have had internal injuries.

5 What is your job, and if you are student, what are you studying or what job to you hope to have?

I'm many things. One of them is an academic.

6 Everyone has a funny story from back in the day .... so lets hear one

When I was about 4 yo, we moved to a place in the middle of nowhere. Except for a small town a couple miles through a forest, there was nothing for miles and miles. The first day there, my father set off and my mother followed soon after. Before she left, she told me to take care of my little sister and never, ever, go to town. After she left, I took my little sister by the hand and she took her doll by the hand, and the three of us got in the forest. We got lost endless number of times. We forgot what we were doing or where we were going endless number of times. We eventually (and out of pure luck) arrived to the small town and quickly run into our mother.

The reason why I remember the events is that, since that day, when my mother was going to forbid me something, she would catch herself mid sentence, and walk away with mockingly dignified airs. We always laughed. She was a goof. However, I never understood her behavior properly until a few years after when I realized that, no matter how I'm talked to, my face shows I'm interested. I actually hear what people say... and then do whatever the fvck I want.

7 Would you be the driver, the mechanic, the designer, or the team boss of an F1 team? And why?

If I wanted, any. Why? Why not.

8 Name three things on your bucket list (things you want to do / see before you kick it...the bucket that is)

Kill myself... if my wife goes first and I don't have relevant outstanding responsibilities.

Otherwise, my wife has asked me to stay in Japan until 2020 thereabouts. After that, I'm planning on finding a godforsaken place in a godforsaken country where to build and run a school. My wife is also an academic and, only if I find the right local or foreign people, I may add an orphanage and a clinic. The objective is to relocate to the kind of place you can only get after walking for maybe a week, the kind of place that has nothing of the things we all consider second nature... like running, clean water... the kind of place where children work instead of play because survival supersedes all other concerns.

Unfortunately, there are many choices.

And those are my answers. I figure even the "funny story" ain't that amusing...

I would like to hear from Cav. If he's got any friends around here, call him up.

EDIT: typo

Sorry for being curious, what does it mean?

Thank God I'm not a cat. smile.gif

No worries.

First the cat. Mine is called "gato". No joke... but that's a different story.

The name Masahiro Nonaka and just how drunk we were. Well, the Nonaka part came about because I spend a lot of time deep inside Japanese scary-steep-sht mountains, riding my bike up forestry roads on my own. You see, in the context of this combination of Chinese characters, "no" means "nature" and "naka" means inside. My friends thought it appropriate as I'm considered odd for these wanderings. A lot was said regarding a woman (or several) on the side and this being just an excuse or alibi of sorts.

The Masahiro part was... how to explain... it was so late that it was early. The sun had already come up and we were gently thrown out into the street, drunk as fish. It was too early for folks to be about but kind of hot already. So we went to a "combini" (Japanese for "convenience store", you know, 7-11 and such), bought a bunch of alcohol and headed for a nearby temple. As it happened that temple offered, in exchange for a donation, a "reading" of peoples' names. A friend picked up "Masahiro" because he was thinking a names for his soon-to-be-born son. The fact was that the "reading" was a fvcking riot and we were almost p**sing our pants when my friend came across, "ideal professional career". It said that Masahiros should make excellent pencil makers. So there we were laughing our heads' off when I started to make an eloquent defense on the art of pencil making. After much laughter and my "hold on, there is more...", my friends applauded and I was given my full Japanese name.

A drunken tale. Had to be there and in that state.

EDIT: typo

EDIT 2: I forgot to give you the meaning of Masahiro. The reason is because there are several Chinese characters used to write Masahiro. Some people like ones, others like... others. I don't quite remember if we chose one set or not. However, sometihng like gracious/elegant/prosperous/bright/justice for "masa" and "large/wide" for "hiro" could work.

There's a Spaniard called Sánchez Dragó who is married with a japaneese woman and they have a cat that they brought to his TV show. He says cats are the best animal in the world but that's not what people think about cats in Spain. He probably learnt it somewhere else.

You got a nice name, it seemed you all had a good time. I met a few japaneese people when I was a student and I laughed out till I cried many times. They get funnier than us when they get drunk.

1. Why did you join this forum?

A: Annoyed about Indy '05. Had some time on my hands. Was too young and too stupid. More than now, if that's possible.

2. Blondes, brunettes or redheads?

A: Not blondes. Redheads don't know, not that common round these parts.

3. Ideal lady?

A: No such thing. Find someone you can respect, trust and care for, you're mostly there.

4. Your most favourite sportsman ever?

A: Can't think of any. They play games for a living, don't care much for them.

5. If you could live anywhere in The world where would you settle on.

A: Europe, probably somewhere in Scandinavia.

6. What would you do with 10 million bucks?

A: Give most of it away, spend some on getting me through another 2-3 university degrees.

7. Name 5 people who have influenced your life.

A: Can't name them on a public forum. They're not famous.

8. How would you rate yourself as a person?

A: I try. Hard. And I don't rate / compare.

Thanks, cavallino, that was interesting.

You answered the original questions, which is fine. A second set of questions was made which are the ones I just answered. In any case, part of your job is to tag someone else whose answers you might want to know or consider of interest... in a sense, it is a questions in itself, ain't it?

Thanks Brad, here goes. And cool thread by the way!

1. Why did you join this forum?

In 2004 I worked in a call-centre & when phones were quiet, I spent hours looking at F1 websites, & stumbled across this one. None of my family or mates are into F1 so I finally found a group of people who I could discuss (& argue!) it with. I soon raalised that I am very argumentative & I used to come home from work literally feeling angry just because of other TF1 members' comments, seems ridiculous now looking back!

2. Blondes, brunettes or redheads?

All of the above, I'm a complete slut, I love it (always safe though!)

3. Ideal lady?

Shorter than me, pretty eyes, nice-smelling hair, loves to play & mess around, so if I throw her across the room she will laugh, get up, then rugby tackle me & we will wrestle. Must be affectionate & up for trying lots of new things in the bedroom. Happy to interact with Lexie (my 2-yr old). Intelligent & good conversation, but spend most of it laughing.

4. Your most favourite sportsman ever?

Damon Hill. Not as naturally gifted as Schumacher but a great sportsman & his life story is inspiring. And look at what he's doing for Silverstone with BRDC now. Legend.

5. If you could live anywhere in The world where would you settle on.

I love Britain, I'm so proud of its history and what its achieved for such a tiny little island, I like the culture, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Anyway in any other country a blonde white-boy like me would probably not stand the heat lol!

6. What would you do with 10 million bucks?

Go and get it exchanged into Pound Sterling.

7. Name 5 people who have influenced your life.

My ex-wife, my daughter Lexie, my parents of course, there isnt a 'top 5', I have 5 siblings and we are all very close, they've all influenced my life, as have a certain 3 good friends of mine who I've known since childhood.

8. How would you rate yourself as a person?

I'm a good guy, emotional, never do anything to hurt anyone, I treat others as I like to be treated, always try to be fair & reasonable. These traits led me to being walked over & treated like crap by my ex but thats my personality, mummy raised me well!

-----------------------------

Sorry i've been away so long I dont know everyone's names like the rest of you seem to!! Has Ben done it yet?

If not someone will have to invite themself please

Believe me, I see yourself as that, the "good guy, emotional, never do anything to hurt anyone" bit, and we're only chatting on here TF1. These traits you mention I can also associate with. It looks like you've come thru a tough time

Love for your home country is admirable but History is what teaches us many times not to be proud of what we achieve, if we look at how we achieved it.

PansyNZL did such a nice job reviving this thread and we've let it die again. Craig's questions:

1 What do you hope people will write on your headstone........and what would you write on your headstone (just for a laff, or you can be serious)?

2 What was the first Formula 1 race you remember watching?

3 If you could have chosen your own name, what would it have been?

4 What is your worst sporting injury (and for those of you with slightly soiled minds *cough Andre cough* you can consider the art of lovemaking as sport)?

5 What is your job, and if you are student, what are you studying or what job to you hope to have?

Someone who hasn't gone answer them and tag someone else. And while you can tag anyone, do consider the benefits of tagging a regular rather than someone who hasn't posted in three years or doesn't ever read "The Café." A lot of interesting people haven't gone yet...so someone go! :)

Bollocks to this queueing, far too Brit-like :P

1 What do you hope people will write on your headstone........and what would you write on your headstone (just for a laff, or you can be serious)?

"Gosh, is that the time?" or, written in tiny writing, "Fcuk off, you're stood on my knackers"

Seriously; "Don't waste a single moment"

2 What was the first Formula 1 race you remember watching?

Faded memory... Lorenzo Bandini, Ferrari sharknose, Monaco - that was the day I decided I was going to be an F1 driver. Still trying. Most memorable were any with Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt, Gilles V, Keke Rosberg.

3 If you could have chosen your own name, what would it have been?

Thor Megachopper-Fersure

4 What is your worst sporting injury (and for those of you with slightly soiled minds *cough Andre cough*

From 'me karting days - broken ribs a few times, toes 'n foot bones, ankle and collar bone, small crack in brain holder. The most painful was ripping all the ligaments behind my knees.

From being a sh1t mountain biker - collar bone and ribs again.

5 What is your job, and if you are student, what are you studying or what job to you hope to have?

Work in t'internet industry, selling everything internetty and training sales people. I love it, but feeling strangely unsettled now, time for a look around, if I can get over the fecking ageism

6 Everyone has a funny story from back in the day .... so lets hear one

The lovely, beautiful Joyce. First time with a serious opportunity to lose something I didn't want, she told me it's more enjoyable to put it a teensy bit further up than between the top of her legs. OK, I was young...

7 Would you be the driver, the mechanic, the designer, or the team boss of an F1 team? And why?

Driver. Nothing compares, nothing makes you feel so alone, and so happy.

8 Name three things on your bucket list (things you want to do / see before you kick it...the bucket that is)

1. See my kids happy as they start of their trip into adult-land, leave them a helping hand for their future.

2. Do something I knew I had to do when firing down the tunnel, it seems to have slipped my mind, must remember :eusa_think:

3. Build my own Caterham r500, mainly for track days, and occasionally annoy the sh1t out of some expert point-and-squirt local bikers :P

3a. Move to the States, asap.

I nominate whoever's place I robbed, or anyone that wants to post :P
