I really don't like the "it eliminated leading championship contenders from the race" part of the FIA's statement. Who it eliminated should be irrelevant. It's just as dangerous of a move if it takes Narain and Charles out.

Yes, that's the part that irks me slightly. As I said previously, I am sure there have been other times when the penalty has been harsher when it involves a championship contender, but that should never come into it, especially in a start line incident.

Apparently the other drivers also support the decision, which would be unlikely if it truly was unfair or would have an affect on them and the way they drove. If that was the case you would get quotes like "how are we supposed to race" - none of which you will find here or I'd wager, anywhere else http://www.jamesalle...ng-say-drivers/

I'm not really sure that is a clear indication, to be honest. F1 drivers are notoriously fickle when it comes to incidents like this and there doesn't seem to much comaraderie/sympathy for other drivers....................until they themsleves are penalised, of course

Mad Donald had a soundbyte earlier in the season stating that he cannot see what was wrong with his approach to racing. I believe this was during the Monaco - Valencia stage of the championship. Regardless of his win in Catalunya, I shall be glad when he's eliminated in favour of Bottas. Williams' profile is improving. They shouldn't need pay drivers soon, one hopes.

Indeed.

People look sad for a race ban for Grosjean but they would kill Maldonado. I want both of them to stay in F1 but I want them to do it properly. The difference between GRO and MAL is the smile on his face. Even my mother said oh no, Grosjean again as soon as she watched the replay.

I still think that in RG's case it was more a case of revenge than justice. And that is not satisfying for me twice. As justice, it was surely not served. As revenge, it falls short. I'd rather have him tied to the back of Maldonado's car for Monza and dragged along the circuit right until Maldonado crashes against whoever gets lucky this weekend.

I'd still want them both in F1, too. As with Lewis last year, you know both Grosjean and Maldonado could be strong drivers providing they have a change of attitude, and that's the frustrating thing. Since they are both effectively rookies, there's hope for both of them.
