Christian Klien Confirmed As Third Driver

Christian Klien confirmed as third driver

After FIA rule change

The FIA, with the unanimous agreement of all teams taking part in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, has made a change to Article 58b of the Formula 1 Sporting regulations concerning eligibility of drivers taking part in Friday practice prior to the Grands Prix.

As a result of this decision, Christian Klien, who competed in the first three Grands Prix of this season, will now be able to undertake third driver duties on Fridays, beginning with the San Marino GP, when Tonio Liuzzi makes his race debut for Red Bull Racing, along side David Coulthard.

Christian Horner

"I am delighted that all of the teams supported our request to the FIA in order to change the regulations regarding the third driver. It would have been hugely frustrating for Christian to be unable to drive a third car in Imola due to the fact that, at 22 years of age, he has driven more then 6 Grands Prix."

Christian Klien

"Great News! Of course, as a race driver it is difficult to sit on the sideline while your team-mates are driving, so it is very good that I can continue to drive and also help the team at the races."

Its a good news, but I really expect Luizzi to make just one GP and let CK the seat all the season

Good news....At least stupid RBR's seat sharing wasnt useless at all cause this rule was really idiot...having said that I hope CK will be back sooner than at the European GP...

Good news For CK. As for Liuzzi we'll see if he performs well. At Imola he'll certainly attract a lot of interest which is exactly what RBr wants (marketing baby), if he does reasonably well then I hope DC has a clue where to go next year!!!

Klien and Liuzzi as team mates for next year sounds exciting i like the look of this new Red Bull team. I hope DC finds a new drive for next year cos he needs it.

Its quite stupid, i would of liked to see them stand their ground and tell them Klien wasn't allowed.

it was a stupid rule in the first place, good they got rid of it. Agree with Taku, this opens up the Sauber 3rd drive big time.

Maybe this could set a precedent for teams pleading with FIA to change rules to help them! I'm surprised how easily FIA just said "yes"

Which is potentially bad news for Villeneuve if the third driver is quicker than him

that's rubbish Senna, Davidson topped nearly all his sessions but he didn't replace Taku or Jenson. The third driver gets to run differing fuel and an engine with max power, so he really should be faster than the race drivers on Fridays!!

Well, Jenson is God in the eyes of BAR Honda and unless Davidson becomes Japanese he is not going to replace Sato however, JV is in very real danger of being replaced after 3 mediocre races for both Renault and Sauber. He has been badly outpaced by first Alonso and then Massa and if he doesn

And your eyes too, eh Senna? Hmm let me see, no poles, no wins. MS: Many Poles, many more wins.

I think my posting name should give you a little clue as to who I believe had the greatest divine talent! Jenson is a fantastic driver and has recently beaten Jarno, JV and Sato in equal machinery. When he is given a car capable of winning races and is not hampered by reliability concerns, he will win races.

PS Jenson has a pole.

yes it would be good if he can replicate that effort next weekend.

I don't think a few ppl at BAR still see JB as a "god" considering his attempted move to Williams, that p**sed off a few people no matter what the team says about team harmony and the like.

As i've said before that team worships JB as they clearly see the potential in him and want him for themselves so do anything to appease him!

Drivers in their 6th year shouldn't have potential they should be at their peek.
