Rosberg to race - official - 03 November 2005

Nico Rosberg will be the youngest driver on the 2006 F1 grid after Williams officially unveiled the German driver's long term contract on Thursday.

The 20-year-old German is the son of Williams' 1982 drivers' champion Keke Rosberg, who was born in Finland. Rosberg will be Mark Webber's teammate next year.

'Given the attention he commands,' said team boss Sir Frank Williams, 'I am delighted he is making a contribution to Formula One history.'

Rosberg will kick off his grand prix career with a test at Barcelona late in November.

'I am really looking forward to ... learning as much from the team as I possibly can,' Nico said.

Webber and Nick got along, despite webber saying nick "just sat there" (and beat him), he also said "he's a good little racer".

Now if i were at Williams i would pick Monteiro as a tester (tested Minardis, with Cosworth engines) as he appears to give good feedbacks to the engineers and a hard worker.

and by your criteria narain is more qualified than tiago coz he has tested both at jaguar and minardi and he almost had the ride in 2004 and stoddard was desparate to sign him and he reduced the price from$4million to $2 million but narain's sponsors could not come up with $2 million!!!!!!!and ride went to zolt s bangartner

I think monteiro has a midland 06 contract

no

atleast not yet

i did not mention that bcoz he tested the ej11 (honda engine) and panchito was making a claim that tiago having tested a cosworth v10 powered minardi deserved a williams test ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's hope for Nico he won't be affected by the Liuzzi syndroma. Moreover a lot of hype is created about him ,and it's usually difficult to live up to it.

Liuzzi was an abject failure.

There are really two reasons to hire a test driver:

1) Because he can provide accurate feedback on the reactions of the car during testing, generally a more experienced driver but not necessarily a fast one is hired on this basis (e.g. Luca Badoer, Alex Wurz), and

2) Because a driver has a great deal of talent that must be developed, generally a younger driver would fall into this category (e.g. Nico Rosberg).

Narain does not fall into either category and hence would make a poor candidate for a test driving position.

Narain would be a terrible choice as he would be unable to provide accurate, reliable and useful feedback. He is inexperienced and untalented.

Rosberg looks quick, but still has a lot to prove!

He won the Gp2, but in all honesty I cant see how you can take a series where the Race 1 winner from Saturday starts 8th on the grid on the Sunday (thats a joke, that even the FIA surely would even think up).

I think Heikki Kovalainen is just as good a driver & after leading the championship for most the season he threw it away with youthful/costly errors (particularly in Belgium).

Yes, heikki is also good, but nico is in a different class with his driving style. Heikki is very error prone, whereas nico is smooth, consistant and I don't actually recall him making any errors, especially not in the capacity of heikki

I'm sure that's part of the rules for a few touring cars series, and that format must have been thought up by the FIA seeing as they run GP2 and many other motorsports series around the world.

Nico is one driver I would love to see disprove what few critics he has and live up to his fan's expectations.

Williams have made a few dud driver decisions in the past, but I think Sir Frank got it right in signing Rosberg. He should hire Monteiro or Doornbos for the third driver seat.

Williams have made a few dud driver decisions in the past,

like getting rid of/driving away drivers that win world championships for him...
