Do You Guys Have A Favourite......?

Recommended Posts

This is pretty difficult to explain but ill use an example with me. Im a big fan of Christian Klien I mean he isnt my nationality he isnt successful in F1 but Im a big fan of him and I like to see him do well. I dont know why I want him to do well but I just hope he does maybe cos I believe he has talent but no one give him much attention. I also like Jacques Villeneuve I mean I know alot of you on this forum dislike him but I think he is a great asset to F1 and I believe he has a great mind for developing cars and I like his originality.

So basically what Im trying to say is do any of you guys and gals on the forum like a few drivers but dont really have a reason why you do?

(sorry if it seems like im talking s*** but I hope you kinda understood what I said).

I like Jarno Trulli but dont really know why. Its probably cos he doesnt get as much praise as some drivers who dont deserve it

I also have a unexplainable (is that a proper word?) liking for Klien. He just comes around as a really decent guy, and besides, I think he will have far more speed than DC this year.

I'm with Ctrl300, I like Klein, but not sure why really. I don't mind seeing Heidfeld, Raikkonen, Alonso and Fisichella do well also. Having said that, I think I may be having Rosberg as my no.2 driver this year, to see if he's worth following once JV exits F1.

Obviously my favourite driver is David Coulthard as he is a really nice guy and a decent driver. I also quite like Christan klien and from what DC has said about him i expect him to do quite well in future years. I guess this means im a real Red Bull fan.

Rubens Barrichello. I've always liked the guy. No reason, just always liked and respected him.

Same here, Rubens was so nice when I met hin at the USGP a few years back, he took 5 minutes to talk with us................

Well all I want Rubens to do is to win the Brazillian GP he just has so much bad luck there I hope he wins it some time specially in interlargos. As for Klien once he gets a race winning car he will finally get some attention :D . And yeah I like Rosberg aswell I think he might be quite good. But i really dont like Button for some reason and he British !!! I prefer the Scot Coultard myself and Sato makes F1 fun unsafe and unpredictable by taking out drivers in a race ie Schumacher :P but I hope 2006 will be good for all the drivers i like and hope 2006 is Kliens year when he gets attention :D .

I guess the closest I came to that kind of thing was Alesi. I always cheered for the guy, no matter what. As for contemporary drivers, I like Fisi, but that's becuase he's generally been one of the most under-rated driver on the grid. I also like Heidfeld - for the same reason.

Conversely, I also tend to dislike drivers who I think are over-rated - such as JB, RB, RS, MW, & FM (and pretty much in that order).

I guess I also have a bit of a soft spot for Trulli, though it's probably becuase I think he's been given short-shrift as a "one-lap wonder".

I agree on you with everything except Rubens Funkejay. I'm currently living in Sydney and those guys on Ten (the only free to air broadcaster of motorsport down here) rate him so highly its not even funny. Just can't stand Webber. What has he ever done but bitch and complain? Oh, sorry scored 2 points when racing for for Paul.

All of it thoroughly deserved, I may add.

Edit: Sato is always dire. This year he was especially bad.

Thanks Ctrl300 - RB did have some impressive races with Stewart, but after that, I just haven't been able to generate much enthusiasm for him. He spent too much time whinging on about how he wasn't getting treated well enough at Ferrari (and how if he only had a proper chance he'd be able to take the challenge to Michael), when he knew he was being taken on as a clear subordinate when he signed (and then renewed) his contract, and should have known he'd never be the equal of the 7 times WDC.

And before anyone accuses me of being a closet MS fan, I clearly am not, but it is also extremely apparent that MS is head and shoulders above RB in terms of talent, focus, and general resolve, and that should be as obvious to RB as anyone else. RB's steadfast refusal to simply acknowledge that and get on with his carreer (like Edie Irvine did) is not only a bit of a joke, but is also one of his major limitations, and is why I'll never be able to take him entirely seriously.

As for Webber, well he did show massive promise while with Minardi, but he hasn't really lived up to the hype since then (although he did have a few good moments with Jag). I'm still prepared to hold out some hope for both he and FM, but don't believe that either of them have yet delivered on their potential. If I'm wrong, and we've already seen the best that either have to offer, well, then there's not much else to say, is there?

Oh I can usually find at least one good reason that I like the drivers I do ;)

Obviously, the other reasons are more substantial than that!!

NB, this year it's:

1) Nick Heidfeld

2) Nico Rosberg

This could all go to pot next year though if mr Paffett makes it :)

Every driver I support, I have a reason, except for 1.

I support MS, cause he's teh 1337.

I support DC, cause he's Scottish, and I am part Scottish.

I support the driver who's driving car No. 5, as it is my lucky number.

The driver with no reason: Christjan Albers. He's pretty good I think and I hope he does well next year.

I have many favourite whipping boys, but you can guess who they are.

Otherwise, Klien seemed a bit arrogant to me - talking about being better than MS before he started his first season, I seem to remember.

Conversely, I also tend to dislike drivers who I think are over-rated - such as JB, RB, RS, MW, & FM (and pretty much in that order).

I'm (pleasantly) surprised you think FM is slightly over-rated.

Unlike many others on the forum, I think FM should have done much better against JV in '05 than he did. I've looked closely at the times and performances of the two over the year, and despite having tremendous advantages over the Cdn: (of which I will only name a few)

1. Having driven for Sauber for a number of years,

2. Having a solidly established relationship with the team,

3. Having a chassis whose design was based almost solely on his input (and therefore virtually custom tailored to his driving style - which was very different from JV's),

4. Having more pre-season testing time,

5. Having no expectations to live up to, and

6. Having the chassis set up to his liking throughout the season (compared to JV who had to fight the team to allow him any input into chassis set-up, which only really began at about the mid-point of the season).

he nevertheless almost failed to beat JV in points by season end (recall that going into China JV was ahead on points 9-8).

It also bears mentioning that the greatest disparity between laps times thoughout the year between the two ocurred at Spa - where JV's fastest lap was more than 3 seconds faster than FM's.

Nonetheless, FM is now on the move to Ferrari, where some are hailing him as the successor to MS.

FM is over-rated by the media and that is all. The public do not seem to think so. The majority of F1 teams do not seem to think so (he hardly had many contract offers during his sauber time... he was even booted out of the sauber seat in 2003 in favour of HHF). The only reason he is going to Ferrari is because of the whole Todt family connection thing. There are many (if not the majority) other F1 drivers who are better than him.
