Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve has resigned from the Grand Prix Drivers Association in protest at the body

If he is quitting because he can't be a part of an organization headed by a man he doesn't respect, why did he join in he first place? He joined when he was at BAR (and Michael was the GPDA president), well after he and Michael had their skirmishes. Did JV respect him then and suddenly doesn't now?

That was my point. This gesture looks noble on it's face but it doesn't hold under close scrutiny. In the end I'm disappointed that Jacques chose the quick, easily-forgotten gesture instead of staying and giving the GPDA his valuable voice and opinions.

You're point has merrit puma, but I think it's rather simple to explain. JV joined the GPDA while MS was one of the directors. MS hadn't pulled one of his "stunts" in quite sometime, so you cannot blame JV for thinking that maybe MS had turned a corner, and was a more honest driver. After what he did at Monaco, it was obvious he was still the same cheating dirty b#####d. Kudos to JV for having the guts (unlike the about face of DC, Webber, Trulli) to actually follow through with his leaving the GPDA.

The GPDA is meaningless anyway. Alonso, Kimi and others don't even attend the meetings. I would have done the exact same thing as JV, but leaving association.

PDR also left the GPDA, but you'll have to dig a bit to even find a mention of that on any of the F1 websites. Either they are having anothe go at JV by splashing the tabloid style headings around, or he's earned enough respect that they care to publicise it.

This is the reason why JV has never endeared himself to me over the years. He is too aggressive, lacks tact and is very confrontational.

I was very surprised to learn that he is very smooth as driver as I would have guessed he would aggressive in the car as he is on the outside.

Why bother dragging up Jerez 1997 all over again.....He won the WDC despite MS's attempt at foul play, so why not just move on and get with the programme.

JV is a very fast driver he just lacks etiquette.

I agree with those who thinks that what JV did was dumb. He did join when MS was the president or the director. He said that he wanted MS to apologize, didn't MS did that? He openly said sorry to FA for ruining is lap. I'm not sure if he said it to Kimi or not but it was those two who were affected by MS stunt right? I like JV as a driver and I like the fact that he's not afraid to speak his mind. But I just think what he did was kind of dumb.

Maybe he's just jealous because of Micheals acheivements. I don't know?

Maybe he regained a little respect for the guy during his sabbatical. As far as I can remember, he only joined the GPMA after his enforced lay off. I say that as Michael had kept out of trouble for a while prior to Monaco, so I guess respect can just as easily be regained as it is lost, but that's just my opinion. I don't know how JV can be criticised as at the end of the day, he stuck to his guns. He said he'd quit if Michael remained, and he did, so he's as good as his word, most others aren't. Right or wrong, he was true to his word.
